This is an excellent hotel in the old village. Like all things in the village, parking is a challenge, making for a tricky check-in if you have a lot of luggage. The hotel staff, while friendly, it’s a little shorthanded so they can be difficult to locate. Overall, a very good hotel for Southern France.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Location in the middle of chaos. Too many people walking around that area. But good in the sense that you can walk everywhere. Air conditioning barely working. I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again.
location was fabulous hotel very dated
simple upgrades like rug in hallway stsirs and bathroom redo would make me return to this hotel
we travel to Aix 3 times abyear sooo
just spend some money to upgrade
Great hotel in great location with friendly and Gifu staff. Just wasn’t enough room to spread out and keep organized my painting equipment and personal things. The shelving unit had a place for hanging clothes but the lower shelves were filled up already with a scan, a safe, and a mini fridge that did not keep anything cool. The suitcase had to be placed under the desk then the chair did not fit anywhere. . It was cramped for a 7 day trip.
Brilliant position
Delightful, helpful staff
Hotel has a lovely charm about it.
Airconditioning struggled in extraordinary hot time
Good value
Would recommend it to everyone

We had an exceptional experience at Hotel de France in Aix-en-Provence. From the moment we arrived, the staff stood out; they were constantly attentive to cater to even the smallest requests. Their professionalism and warmth made us feel truly welcome.
The hotel itself is immaculate. Our room was extremely comfortable, with one of the most restful beds we’ve had during our travels. Despite the intense heatwave outside, the air conditioning worked flawlessly and kept the room perfectly cool at all times.
We had a most wonderful stay! Our room was immaculate and so very comfortable! The breakfast was delicious and the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. The air conditioning was very enjoyable to come home to with the hot temperatures outside. Special thanks to Flo at the front desk for his kindness!

Lovely hotel with excellent staff. Very well located. Needs a bit of modernisation but without losing its charm! We understand this is happening in the winter. Breakfast offerings could be upgraded to accommodate international visitors.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, very excellent . And the location was wonderful. The main issue was with the air conditioning which did not work well. We were given an extra two fans which helps but the room remained warm.
Staff were amazing and friendly! We had the suite which was lovely and very spacious. Only issue we had was the air conditioning was minimal, but the fan in the room helped. Excellent location, would absolutely book again.
The air conditioning inside our room was 29 Celsius and really hot, they have 2 electric fans inside the room and the sun sets on our windows, staff couldn’t do anything about it. The staff member was kind enough to let us on another room to change and put our make up.
The location was in the old town so everything was walkable and loads of shopping and restaurants to choose from. The room was a good size with modern bathroom. The AC didn't really work, but other than that, it was great for where we wanted to be.
you need to change the thumbnail photo that advertises this hotel. It is rather misleading. Not a great start to find the reception unattended when we arrived to check in. Just a phone number to call. We got our key cards eventually only to find our double room was tiny. There was nowhere to unpack our luggage to apart from a wire coat stand with a dusty shelf. No drawers. Conversely the bathroom was bigger than the bedroom; a ‘wet room’ shower which made the entire floor wet, and a bizarre mirror with a shaving magnifier that would only be suitable if you were three feet tall. Worst of all, the AC was faulty and the room was boiling hot. We called reception and someone came to fix it. Unfortunately the problem was not resolved and we had a very uncomfortable night. When we raised the issue again in the morning a more helpful staff member assured us that the problem would be resolved while we were out. I requested we be moved to a different room if the problem could not be resolved and, when we returned a couple of hours later, we were given another room. this room was far superior so we were much happier. There was however an overwhelming smell of insect spray which was quite concerning. That night we had to open the windows as the AC was still inadequate. We didn’t bother complaining again as we preferred the larger room and we were only staying 3 nights. Also some of the reception staff were rather surly so we were pleased to check out.
No air conditioning. Had to leave windows open which then allowed loud noises from street bars and restaurants every night until 2AM and early set up noises starting at 6AM. Not a very restful place. The room however was clean and comfortable and the hotel staff were very friendly. Good location just FIX the air conditioning !!!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
The hotel is located at the entry to the old town so is very well placed. The rooms were clean enough (to warrant it's 3 stars) and comfortable, though the hotel is now somewhat dated and seems to be experiencing some issues, i.e. we are a family of 5 and when we got in the lift it failed in a semi-dramatic manner. The main issue for me was that the air conditioning units were ineffectual. We stayed on the Saturday night of the UEFA champions league final so there naturally was a lot of jollity outside, which alongside the cooking smells meant that we favoured keeping the windows closed. However, the AC unit was so weak that we had a very uncomfortable night. I even searched for and downloaded the remote instruction guide via Google but it felt very under-powered. The staff were friendly enough and the 11AM checkout was appreciated.
