Bad check in experience

Booked through Expedia so we were unaware of the pool being renovated. Join check in, we were told and we were not happy with it and the first thing the check in lady said was, well if you want to cancel the room I’m sure the manager wouldn’t mind doing that for you. Instead of apologizing, she tried to get rid of a family of five, which was very upsetting and unprofessional. We ended up staying the night and the next day leaving early and heading to the Hilton in Irvine and purchased a day pass for us all and a cabana which better suited our needs.

Very nice hotel but it felt like they nickeled and dimed for everything. For example, the bottles of water in the room were $5 each. A lot of other hotels, including the Marriot next door (where we used the outdoor pool since the Hilton's was under renovation) offer free bottled water to guests. They also wanted to charge us an early check-in fee even though our room was ready & it was only an hour before the official check-in time. They ended up "waiving" the fee which was nice but really, why was it even brought up in the first place? Hilton Honors rewards program essentially means nothing except for free wifi. Yay, I guess? All and all, we enjoyed our stay and the accommodations were nice but nothing exceptional.
