The best of Umbria

This castello feels like a lot of care and thought has been given to restoring a very old estate. It seems like a place of old that is self sustaining with olive groves, fruit orchards, and beautiful gardens.

Not worth the view

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful. Very scenic and well manicured. However, the rooms are a different story. We were to have a room with a balcony as described on our Hoyels.com itinerary but was told it was not available. The room we received was small, no A/C in the rooms, ceiling fan made noise so we couldn’t use, window screen in room was cracked so bugs could come in and the bathroom products were minimal and not good quality. I had to make many attempts with the front desk staff to finally give me a small room cost reduction. The beauty of the grounds was not enough to stay here. Wedding going on and music was loud until 11:15pm.

Beautiful stay in the Umbrian hills

This place is a gem. The gardens, the view of Assisi and Umbria, the well appointed rooms and common areas--just amazing.

Spectacular location with beautiful gardens and friendly staff. The mattresses were hard by North American standards and the hot water came and went. But these were small quibbles. The setting is magical. There is an outstanding restaurant on site, as well as a wellness centre that can be reserved by couples for private use. Extremely romantic!

Wonderful venue

This was our fourth or fifth time to stay and we love this property. We are always welcomed warmly, the rooms are very well kept and comfortable. The restaurant is excellent with an impressive wine list. While the road to the property could be a little intimidating, the views and the gardens more than make up for it. We highly recommend Castello di Petrata.

Beautiful castle in exquisite gardens

We stayed one night at Castello Di Petrata with our 3 children. We had two suites (101 and 104). The setting is incredible - acres of landscaped gardens, beautiful pool, tennis court, olive grove, farm garden all looking over rolling hills to Assisi. New bathrooms, comfortable beds, great dinner and breakfast. Wish we had stayed longer.

Beautiful and Romantic Getaway

We had a great stay. The hotel is very cozy and very well taken care of in a great property at the top of a hill with a great view of Assisi. Dinner was excellent. The staff were very attentive and helped us arrange a horse trail riding activity the following day that was also fun. The hotel is about 15 to 20 minutes by car from the parking lot of the Basilica St Francis. We had no problem getting to the hotel using Google Maps.

Beautiful hotel peached on the hills.

What a lovely hotel. High on the hills overlooking the valley. Wonderful staff and idealic hotel. Nice rooms with small bathroom. We are at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was excellent. Beautiful grounds. Wander the paths and watch the sunset over the valley.

Fantastic service in best location

The staff of Castello di Petrata were incredible! We were made to feel like family members coming home after a long time away from the family. They were helpful with local things to do and places to eat, happily helped us figure out when certain things were open when I called from village (Assisi) below, and even prepared a private dinner for myself and my wife. I inquired about dinner, they set up the rest. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect, romantic dinner for our honeymoon. The location is also wonderful. It's in a serene location in the hills above Assisi. Very quiet and has a incredible view of the town and the valley below it. It's a welcome respite if you need a break after spending time in the bustle of one of the larger cities.

Ssssshh...don't tell anyone about this hotel

Don't think about staying anywhere else. Assisis beautiful, a must. The hotel is a drive up the mountains to the north.....but well worth it for the views. It is beautiful!!!! and the pool was a welcome break in the Italian summer heat. Oops...should have kept this a secret...I might want to book it again in the future. Forget what I said earlier...it's rubbish.

Beautiful Oasis in Assisi

This is a lovely hotel at the top of a mountain in Assisi - tranquility reigns supreme. Peaceful with gorgeous landscaping and the views are sublime. The on-property restaurant was good and the food was excellent(4 out of 5). The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The Billiard Room could use a little updating but we still had fun there. Excellent wine at dinner, the breakfast was more than we expected and we were only sad to have one day/night there. It was not as tricky to find from the center of Assisi as I had thought it might be, although it was an adventure driving the roads to get there.

An Umbrian Gem

We stayed at Castello di Petrata for two nights in early October. Be prepared for what at first feels like a long drive outside of Assisi - but it's well worth the trip. The hotel is historic, beautifully renovated, maintaining elements of the original structure, with all the modern conveniences. The grounds are vast and beautiful and the staff was happy to oblige any request. We ate dinner at the hotel on our first night, and the food was delicious, with a wonderful wine selection from local wineries. I highly recommend this property.

Beautiful but hot!

We were delighted with the magnificent view of Assisi and the quality of staff service. However, we were surprised to learn that our room did not have air conditioning. As it was 34 degrees during our stay, we had great difficulties sleeping despite being provided with a small room fan.

Small castle on a hill

The castello is an amazing venue in the middle of the most beautiful countryside that I have ever seen. I don't know the history of the small castle, but it was charming and yet retained its rugged castle features. The small arrow-slit windows and the exposed brick throughout made me feel like I had taken a holiday through time. It was an amazing start to the trip of a lifetime in Italy.

step back in time in comfort

Charming 14th Century castle converted extremely tastefully to a characterful hotel in superb grounds on hilltop remote location. Sadly no aircon in rooms and a torturous twisting and hilly drive to anywhere otherwise it would have been a perfect score for the location. The restaurant was not to our liking, serving very small portions at quite high prices but then, this is a small family run hotel with undoubtedly very high overheads that need to be re-couped. We solved the problem by eating out most nights.

Country Hotel near Assisi

This charming country inn is a little hard to find but well worth the effort. There is a full spa on the grounds and the view is spectacular. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to help. The food at the on site restaurant is superb. This inn is a former fortress remodeled and is a truly delightfull place to stay. It is about a 15 minute drive from Assisi which you can see from the hotel across the valley.
