The property itself was excellent, the room was very clean, and the location excellent. The concierge, Mark, was fantastic, and he is the only reason we continued our stay. The staff at the front desk were the worst we have ever dealt with. While checking in, we asked the clerk at least 8 times to speak up as we could not hear her; she became frustrated and refused to speak up. We arrived early and our room was not ready which we expected. They have an 11am checkout; we asked for an 11:30am checkout; she said she could not accommodate our request. She told us she would call us when the room was ready; we never received a call. AFTER our assigned check-in time, we went back to see if our room was ready. We asked to speak to the other desk clerk hoping to have more productive communication. He gave us a room; we asked him if was identical to the room we had reserved; he assured us it was. The concierge, Mark, took us to the room. The room was two single beds; we had reserved and paid for a king bed! At that point we wanted to go to another hotel. Mark called the front desk and with minutes had us in a lovely room. Since we did not get a room until 30 minutes after check-in time, we asked for a 30 minute extension on checkout and were told we could checkout at 11:30am. The next morning, the same desk clerk from the day before called us because we had not checked out at 11am. This hotel is rated 5 star; in many aspects it is except for the front desk, not a pleasant experience.

The hotel is located in the CBD and is located near quality shops and restaurants. We enjoyed an outstanding fish dinner and a couple great breakfasts. The rooms are well appointed and quiet. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They offered suggestions on things to do in the area and day trips. We would stay there again.

Bitter Sweet Stay

Beautiful luxury boutique hotel, however our stay was bitter sweet. We enjoyed the restaurant & we were in the Duchess Suite on level 7 which was just gorgeous, however we stayed at Fable for a relaxing & unwinding few nights only to be directly above/next to the roof top night club next door. The music was booming & so loud along with clubbers until 2.30am. I called down to reception around midnight only to be told ‘oh what music’ & I’ll get back to you! It’s quite obvious that they would know! Then we were awoken early with loud humming noise & clunking only to realize that the house staff service lift was right next to us. This meant no sleeping in as they start early to do their jobs, so overall a very disappointing stay. I’m also an Accor member then to be told I couldn’t use my card to get reward points in the restaurant as I booked through a third party. Usually stay at M Social as we visit Auckland a couple of times a year for a getaway from Australia, so as lovely as this hotel is, I would only stay again if I could be guaranteed a very quiet room & not just get an ‘I’m sorry’ about the noise. I had asked to speak to a manager on duty after the first night, however there was no manager there on a Sunday.

Great location in downtown Rockland

We arrived just off of 14 1/2 hour flight. The front desk was already accommodating and we were able to check in in a couple hours early. If we ever come to Rockland again, we will definitely stay here again. Breakfast was very good. Great location.

The first room had a bad smell which we were then quickly moved to a new room. The house keeping missed a few things but the stay was fine. Access to the sauna was limited by appointment, but then when we asked to use it, were told it needed to be turned on to heat up. The gym was very small without air conditioning, towels, or water. Location was good.

The property is in a very central location and was reasonably priced. The hotel and room was clean. We had a room on the first floor and all the windows were blocked out and looked into the hotel. The room was also very warm and the air con didn’t seem to work. The bathroom door didn’t shut properly or lock which was annoying, but this was by design not an error. The safe didn’t lock. I only realised it was an Expedia VIP access property after checking out as we received no benefits when staying here. The staff were not particularly friendly, except for one of the concierge who was nice. We asked to check-in early after arriving on a red eye flight at 11am, the receptionist told us he would give us a call when our room was ready and we never got a call, so checked in at 2pm (the normal check-in time). We were not made aware of any facilities and only learned later that the hotel had a gym and spa. Not a terrible hotel by any means, but certainly not 5 star and should not be considered a VIP access property.
