The staff was friendly and accommodating. We had car trouble and needed to stay beyond checkout time. It was no problem!! It was obvious that the management really cared about this small and unique inn. Beautiful setting, so quiet and peaceful. Such a fun and different experience.

Utterly beautiful setting and the petit troglo room was fantastic with plenty of space for us as well as a toddler bed and cot. It really felt like you were in a cave, whilst still being really luxurious and the shower was a work of art! Breakfast was wonderful and well worth paying for, and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. Would love to stay longer next time.

Great Quirky little Cave Hotel
Brilliant, quirky little hotel- if you want to stay somewhere that's different- this is the place. Rooms are in cave with comfortable beds, beautiful bathroom and with your own little terrace. breakfast is fantastic - all homemade yoghurt and creme-caramel, crepes etc etc. Only minor point I can think of , there is no air conditioning - I did expect the cave to be cooler in temperature; but you can sleep with the windows/doors open - it's very quite and safe there.

Giving troglodytes a good name
We stayed in a very large wheelchair accessible room with bathroom to match inside a limestone cave that was once a farmstead. The owner was very friendly and helpful; parking was relatively easy and there was a lift to carry us and our bags down about 20 feet to the entrance to our cave/dwelling. All very nicely appointed, clean, painted, no stains anywhere and everything worked. Beds were comfortable and breakfast included homemade yogurts, jams and oranges with an electric juicer. The Chateau Azay is nearby (one of the nicest in the Loire Valley) and we could drive to several other nearby chateaux. There are at least two good restaurants in the town, one located in a cave.

A gem of a hotel
From our arrival to our departure, we felt very welcomed and well taken care of by our wonderful hosts. They were very attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms are very nice, and being dug into the rock, remained quite cool despite the soaring temperatures outside. The bed was very comfortable, and the rest of the room very comfortable. There is also a series of terraces with outdoor furniture, as well outdoor jacuzzis. The breakfast at this hotel is absolutely special. Besides the traditional croissants, pains au chocolat or pains aux raisins, there was some of the local traditional bread, as well as fresh squeezed juices, home baked cakes, crepes, jam, yoghurt and vanilla custard. Simple, and yet one of the best breakfasts I've had so far, even considering some of the 5 start luxury hotels I've been at. All in all, this is a charming little hotel, that makes you forget of all those bland hotel chains. There, you get to meet the owners, chat with them during breakfast or while they tend to the hotel, and get to learn about the region, how they built the hotel, all while enjoying a quiet and restful stay in a beautiful property.

Hotel Troglododo is a unique combination of a quirky room concept combined with a comfortable hotel environment plus incredibly friendly and helpful owners - all an easy 10 minute walk to the town of Azay le Rideau and it lovely island bound chateau. Or use the free mountain bikes if you don't feel like walking. We loved our 3 night stay. We loved our large room carved into the local tuffa rock (limestone) with large windows and own bathroom. We loved the lavish continental breakfasts with home made yoghurt and cakes. We loved relaxing in the spa after a day of sightseeing in the Loire valley. We loved the ever helpful and enthusiastic hotel builder / owners, who went out of their way to please. They even did our laundry for free. Definitely a place to stay for something unique.

Staying en route while doing the Loire a velo. Hotel very accommodating about bikes. Quirky and interesting place to stay. Great site for view and privacy with each room having its own terrace. Would like to spend a week there instead of our one night. We got this half price but well worth the full price too. Amazing bathroom attached to our veryarge room

Cool hotel in good location
Just stayed one but would have happily stayed longer. Local town was walking distance and had ato least one nice restaurant. There was a castle and a park which looked well worth anot explore.

Don't miss this experience!!
My sons and I were biking the Loire Valley trail and this was the most fun hotel we stayed in!! The owner has converted a hillside into a hotel by digging caves out of the rock-each is different and each is amazing. The room walls are all caves - but they are decorated like elegant rooms with swags over the bed and great lighting. He's done the bathrooms in travertine - our shower was a travertine wall with a curtin across the area and the drain in the floor. So we had lots of room to shower (it was the width of the room) and it all drained right down. The vanity and backsplash are all travertine too - so it is an interesting mix of the rough cave walls with the elegant travertine. It was more mood lighting than functional in the bathroom but it was worth it for the whole experience. The bed was comfortable and firm, big pillows, crisp white sheets and we had a great night sleep. Knowing we were on bikes he even offered to let us do laundry!! The whole feeling of the hotel is family, warm French reception and "how can I help you?" He told us a short cut route with fewer cars than the bike trail - invaluable information to us! It's a short walk to town and he recommended some great restaurants for dinner - not expensive and excellent. His parents live in one of the rooms with their dog and there are cats everywhere (theirs) who need lots of loves. We hated to leave this wonderful hotel and the host and his wife - we felt so welcome.
