Very interesting and memorable property in central Baarle. The rooms are right above a restaurant/bar, but there were not any noise issues. There were wavy hallways and floors and the building was in somewhat poor condition. Despite that, we found it to be a fun and memorable stay. The room was a nice size and the staff were great. Reasonably priced.
on the border of Belgium and Netherlands - bit unique. Food in the restaurant for dinner was great and they created special meal for grain free customer. breakfast was a bit expensive for what it was, but nice location.

The main inside dining room of the restaurant is lovely. The room was not bad, the bathroom (with bathtub) was fantastic, easily the highlight of our stay. On the downside, every single interaction with the staff was weird, from the moment they showed us our room, to trying to ask for a glass of tap water with our 60 euro meal (they gave us one the night before, the reason for refusing the second night was "they already give away so much"); a bit of a hard sell when I tried to cancel the 13 euro p.p breakfast after trying it one day (skip it); trying to store our bags somewhere for an hour when we checked out....it was like everything was a hardship for the staff. One waiter was pretty good, the rest seemed like they were being held against their will.

Touring on our tandem.
Our room was spacious, entrance to it at the side of the building, not the main door, and there was a very unpleasant odor in the corridor of steep stairs leading up to it. Room ok. Location of hotel was good, in the town center. The food at the hotel restaurant was very good, also the service.
Very nice comfortable room, right on the border. Free parking 5 minutes away on Amalia van Solmstraat.

Right in town
Worse beds I have ever had in a hotel..My back was killing me!!..Very much over-priced breakfast especially for such a little amount of food..All staff were very friendly & helpful
Stayed one night as passing through on a cycle tour. The staff were friendly and the room was surprisingly, well, roomy.
We had our evening meal there too in the sun room. A good choice on the menu and staff were attentive but not overbearing. The room faces south west so gets the evening sun.
Breakfast is Dutch continental; an egg and cheese/ham and a variety of breads. Set us up for the day.
Tot ziens!
The gentleman we first met at reception was a bit short and uninterested - not sure if he was a manager or something, but didn't feel particularly welcomed when he got a waiter to show us up to the room.
Lovely room, nice view over front of hotel. Nice beds and good decor.
Bathroom; hand held shower in bath with no shower curtain - bit tricky trying not to get the floor soaked.
Not sure if it's a terribly British thing to expect, but no tea/coffee making facilities in room, and our hand soap was removed by cleaners during the day with no replacement - bit odd.
Den Engel has the makings of a good hotel but not quite there yet, I saw another review where they described it as a restaurant that happens to have a couple of rooms which I feel is quite apt.
However, perfect location in the centre of the town, bus stop right outside, and tucked just next to one of the town's famous borders!

Nice hotel at the border with Belgium
A good hotel to stay however not for long. Rooms are at the street side so noisy when heavy traffic (trucks etc.).
Hotel administration not managed very well. The bill was a mess. However the food was of a good quality but too expensive. The breakfast was good but too much to eat so creating a waste of food.
The rooms are clean and modern however room service, i.e. to clean the room, is not so good.
