Our stay at the shangri-La Bangkok has been a little disappointing. we were woken at 7AM by pipes banging in the ceiling of our bathroom. That continued for over an hour. At breakfast we were served a cup of coffee in a cup with dried on coffee stains. The waitress took it away then poured the coffee into a new cup and brought it straight back. I asked for a new cup of coffee. The phone in our room did not work. The initial impressions as you arrive are that this is a 5 Star hotel with staff everywhere to assist you. Check in was seamless and I was persuaded to become a Shangri La Club member. At check out I advised the staff member of the issues with the room and my experience at Breakfast. She responded by asking me if I wanted the cost of breakfast deducted from the deposit we had given when checking in. No apology / no acknowledgment as she said something to her colleague and that was it! Did not care one bit! Probably going to choose a different hotel when travelling in the future.

It was an exceptionally great stay as the total atmosphere was enjoyable from service to sales at the hotel shops. Only complaint is that the food at the Shang has deteriorated somewhat and dim sum is not even as good as the shops outside.

This hotel is really tired looking and not up to the normal standard of Shangri-La. The price compared to other hotels in the area of the same standard is really high but the hotel fails to deliver. Really disappointing.

Disappointing

All in all I feel this hotel was fairly disappointing for the price in this city. We don’t often stay at high end hotels but it was our honeymoon so we thought we’d go five star. The staff were polite and friendly but not the usual standards ld expect from a five star in Southeast Asia. For example, no doorman and no turndown service. The pool was nice but the sunbeds were old and tatty and looked very dated. l feel you can get nicer hotels in Bangkok for the price.

This is a beautiful property right on the river in Bangkok. We stayed as a family of four with two children. The service is fantastic, as you would expect with a Shangri-La Hotel. It has a very large gym and a fun pool area in the Shangri-La wing. The only negative is the rooms are slightly dated compared to other hotels that we stayed in during our trip. The rooms are still very comfortable and with great views over the river, but certainly dated when compared with the other hotels. It would be nice for a real coffee machine in the room vs a Nescafé sachet. However the free drinks in the minibar is a nice touch.
