A quirky hotel - very old in parts plus newer extension. We had a spacious bedroom with 2 armchairs and a very comfortable bed. A modern bathroom, but with little shelf space to put toiletries or toothbrushes (a tumbler, perhaps?). Some complimentary toiletries provided. We booked to eat in the restaurant each night and were not disappointed with the quality or quantity of the dishes. Breakfast was cooked to order. All members of staff very friendly and helpful. ~Although we did not use the bar, there was an extensive wine list. A very comfortable lounge for guests with books.
This hotel had quite a few plus points but, regrettably, a few more minus points. Plus points included friendly waiting and management staff, a pleasant lounge area, overall cleanliness and a comfortable bed. The problem was that the room and en-suite bathroom were very dated. The bathroom had a cracked, broken shaving mirror and faded white plastic toilet handles. Despite a comfy bed, it wasn’t always possible for my husband and I to get a decent night’s sleep as the walls were paper thin and we could hear our neighbours snoring, watching television and using the toilet. Time to invest in some updating, insulation and soundproofing. Although not an issue for us, access to the rooms for the less mobile would be difficult due to many stairs and corridors.
Breakfast was equally disappointing - the orange juice tasted as though it had been diluted, my husband (who likes his eggs quite runny) couldn’t eat his poached egg as is was both anaemic in colour and insufficiently cooked. He thought that local farm eggs would be used given the hotel’s rural location. He was also disappointed that black pudding did not feature as part of the ‘full breakfast’ options and that the brown sauce used was of poor quality. The ‘Queens Head’ opposite was very handy though and we enjoyed our visit there. Other than breakfast we did not use the restaurant as we were visiting family in the area. Wi-Fi reception was also problematic on occasion. We felt the room cost was expensive.

Breakfast was excellent
Our room Was cold and damp, we left a day early due to this and on unpacking when home all our clothes smelt of the damp.
Room was tired and carpet and walls marked.
Room in dire need of updating especially the bathroom as floor got soaked when using the shower because glass shower panel seal didn’t work.

Beautiful hotel
Staff very friendly, food excellent, rooms clean and comfortable, but alittle tired with ceiling paint and walls peeling off, grounds and hotel is beautiful, restuarant is comfortable and beautiful set out, parking was ample, great value and near to lots of great places to visit, the local pub is lovely and great food
All staff were so friendly and welcoming. Loved that we were shown to our room, which was clean and neat. The hotel has a certain dated charm as it was built in the 16th century but possibly needs a little bit of TLC eg our bath tub needed replacing as the top layer was chipped. However, shower was fantastic. Breakfast was enjoyable. Good selection on the continental and delicious cooked breakfast. Overall, comfortable bed, great shower and service with a smile - my top 3 key things I look for were delivered.
A bit late here for a review, but stayed in late June. Friendly and accommodating to us who failed to read the hotel rules and had a couple of awkward moments with late arrivals and service needs! Really appreciated the homey, peaceful atmosphere. Beautiful authentic antique structure with just the right modern conveniences and Great access to our choice garden visits in the area. we would definitely stay again
Thank you Julio! love the white Hydrangeas
For us, just a one night stay. A clean comfortable room, although a little basic, all in a lovely old building. Easy parking, helpful staff, great restaurant with excellent food for both breakfast & dinner. A very pleasant stay!!
Nice hotel, well run, very clean , comfy bed, good breakfast . Nice staff, lovely waitress guided us in her car to the crematorium to avoid traffic jams Thank you, didn’t catch her name .
My partner and I visited for one night (child free 🎊! Staff were so nice and the hotel was immaculate. Breakfast hot / good quality and the bed was very comfy!
Highly recomend.
This is a pleasant place to stay if you are either coming back from the South coast or wanting a quiet village rest and it serves great meals. The location is quiet and there are gardens to sit in or a lounge if cool. The staff are friendly and welcoming. There is a coffee/tea tray in the room and a free bottle of water and complimentary showergel, soap and shampoo. There is plenty of parking.
