Very reasonable summer rates; close to I-5 and a short drive to quaint Fairhaven historic district (8 minutes) were primary attractions to book. Check-in efficient and friendly; parking free and plentiful at all hours; room on second floor in building 2 quiet; room decor a little dated, but everything very clean; bed was comfortable, with mattress and pillows neither too firm nor too soft; spacious bathroom; plentiful breakfast with items kept in stock and dining area tidy.

It was ok. Still seemed a little expensive for the quality of the room and breakfast wasn't anything exciting. Mostly stayed here as it's close to college campus and freeway.

Great stay
I booked this hotel based on reviews and location. We needed easy to find, comfortable, clean, and hopefully working items in the room. It was only for one night to finish our trek home to Salem from Anchorage Alaska. We had good places and not so good places. What a great find the Coachman was. The reception area was clean and bright. We were greeted and quickly registered for our room. The room was clean, roomy enough, and everything worked. We had asked about dining, and I wanted tacos, so we were directed to the restaurant across the street. Walking is a relief after 5 long travel days. The food was good, and we slept well that night. What a treat to find an older era hotel kept up so nicely these days. It's really well cared for. We would definitely stay again.

The property is not as modern or high tech - it's a basic hotel with dated furniture, fixtures and buildings - but it is extremely clean. Talking with the owners (family owned - brothers switch front desk duties during the week), you can tell that they really care about the property and treat their guests like family members. Every corner of the property and the room is spotless and works. Even when you come for the free breakfast (basic continental but filling enough - hard boiled eggs, bananas, creals, oatmeals, bagels, coffee), you get a sense that the hosts really care that you have a good experience in their hotel. I gave them 5 stars not just because of their excellent service, attitude, and care, but because they are able to make an older facility worth staying at. Sure you'd probably enjoy much better facilities at twice the price, but this one makes you feel welcome and still is a bargain!
