The Sly Berlin is a prime example of the saying, “Where there is light, there is also shadow.”
While the hotel impresses with its loft-style design and a greenhouse lounge/lunch area as a striking visual feature, a hygiene incident and the handling of the situation cast a shadow over my stay.
There was a chewed piece of gum stuck on the side table next to the bed. Beyond the hygiene issue itself, the staff’s inability to remove it even after I pointed it out (I had to remove it myself) led to damage to my sneaker (as a result of a chain of events including a coffee that stucked to the side table because of the gum). Despite the receptionist’s best efforts, the proposed solution was unsatisfactory and is unlikely to resolve the issue.
Overall, the Sly Berlin advertises and presents itself as a hotel with higher standards. However, the hygiene lapse and the way my complaint was handled significantly undermined this standard.
All of this lowers my estimation of the hotel significant.
