Frequent travel, London

Middle of town, old hotel.
Car parking on street limited to 1hour. All day parking available but none dedicated to hotel residents. Restaurant food ok but better offerings in town.

Well located hotel for visiting surrounding area!
I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay here and the staff were very welcoming and friendly which, as a lone traveller, was important to me.

Woken Early by Plumbing
Pleasant Hotel in the heart of the town. Ornate Decor in Reception, Bar and other Communal spaces but hotel room (2nd Floor) was bland in comparison. One major complaint was that there was an unknown plumbing/mechanical droning sound which kept 'pulsing'for 10 mins approx every hour from 7:30am. Obviously this woke us and kept us awake. We complained to the receptionist when leaving who apologised but otherwise didn't seem very interested.

Grand old hotel - but not the restaurant
The King's Arms is something of a paradox. It's a rather grand old hotel in the middle of town, where, according to the plaque, Charles Dickens did a reading. There is a bit of a Dickens theme running through the ground floor. Bedrooms are comfortable and can be reached via an elevator. The Limoncello restaurant, however, doesn't reflect the theme, and I think it's because it is trying to fill tables by offering plentiful food at attractive prices to local families. It reminded me of Italian restaurants in 1960s Britain, with chianti bottles with a candle stuck in on every table. We were hoping to be able to eat local seafood, but the menu was largely pizza and steak served with different sauces. We felt rushed to make our initial choice, and then were disappointed to see that there were some interesting daily specials on a board that the server had not pointed out. The house red wasn't too good, but it was also very cheap; we should have been a bit more discriminating there. The loud music was unpleasant and made conversation difficult. Service at breakfast was very slow, considering how few guests were there.

Be prepared to wait. Don't have the breakfast.
Not a bad hotel, fully refurbished rooms. It is however overpriced. The place is also severely under-staffed, meaning you wait to check it, wait to check out and wait for breakfast, wait to be served at the bar, at any time of the day... breakfast lunch or dinner. Wait, and wait, and wait... Breakfast was a case-in-point... We (a work colleague and I) met for breakfast at 8:15. We went through to the restaurant, via the main reception. We then had to wait, in the dark, for someone to greet us. After 10 minutes, I went back to reception to ask if breakfast was being served. To be told the receptionist would be "with me in a minute". There was no-one else around, guest or staff... The man from reception then turned came through and turned the light on, and asked us what we wanted. I asked for tea, my colleague asked for a cup of the filter coffee, a full jug of which was on the hot plate, to be told that this "would be cold", and would we be OK with a coffee from the machine. It took 15 minutes for these to arrive. We both asked for the "Breakfast Sandwich". I asked for sausage, my colleague asked for bacon and sausage, to be told it was only "choice of sausage and bacon", not both. 20 minutes later I was presented with 2 chipolata sausages (cut lengthways) lined up on two slices of yesterdays sliced white bread. A bargain at just £8.95.

Recently renovated to a high standard.
The hotel is very impressive when you first walk into reception, and the feeling continues when you reach your room. There were a few teething problems with the new set-up however. I cannot say for other rooms, but ours was on a 20 degree slope! Not really an issue, but one certainly couldnt play marbles on it if one felt the need. Also, i had to tune the tv myself, which not really an issue, but nevertheless could present a problem to the less tech-savvy. There's also this really irritating alarm that goes off if you dont close your room door quickly enough, meaning everyone coming back/leaving throughout the night wakes you up. To finish on a positive, the location is excellent, right in the centre of town.

Could do Better
I have stayed in this hotel probably for the last time. The hotel rooms are comfortable and well furnished-with a few problems. The bathrooms are tiled floor to ceiling as a result the bathroom is very cold in winter with a tiny towel radiator which is not up to the job of heating the room. The TV has poor reception. The wifi is non existent in the rooms and the wifi in the foyer is very poor. Service in the restaurant (Limencello) is very poor. Often the chef is late in the mornings for breakfast and the Eastern European staff in the evenings have poor levels of service /etiquette. The restaurant is supposed to be part of the hotel but is run separately so trying to charge the restaurant bill to the room is tricky.

Nice hotel in Berwick
The hotel reception staff were friendly and nice. The room was very comfortable and I had a good night's sleep. The hotel has a very small and quaint cocktail/wine bar which has plenty of character. The bathroom was very well fitted out with a bath and a separate shower, to a high modern standard. The tap on the sink took a while to run hot water but there was no problem with shower & bath. I didnt have breakfast so I cant comment on that.

No breakfast service, the result of chef not turning up; hotel freezing, no bar open [10ish]. Tiny, tiny rooms! Staff who were at hotel were perfectly fine.

Hotel in Transition
The Kings Arms knows what it wants to be, but there are still a few things that need to be done to get there. The bar is too small, while the residents lounge is not used. A lack of staff in the bar led to 4 walks in off the street to walk back out. The room was very pleasant. Not much of a view, as it was at the back of the building. There was no back up plan when the breakfast chef "called in sick". I may be back when the changes are finished.

Huge potential failed to deliver
Casual approach to customer service. On arrival was greeted by a waitress eating pasta at the reception desk chatting to the manager behind the desk; no one at reception with instruction to dial a mobile number for assistance - it was an incorrect number; no toilet roll in room; no wifi other than in reception; one member of staff at breakfast responsible for taking the order, serving drinks, cooking and cleaning up; en suite impressive and spacious but neither bath or sink plug worked. Etc etc Bottom line is that the good customer service is delivered through staff who are available / accessible to guests, trained in customer service and facilities that deliver functionality and not just a veneer!

Friendly & Comfy
The hotel has been refurbished and is both very pretty and comfy. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant Limoncello within the facility serves flavourful Italian dishes. The only downside for me was the opening hours for breakfast, 8am on Saturday, too late for breakfast before work. Other than that definitely a superb hotel, ideal for vacation/business alike.

Nice hotel new the water
I had a small bit of difficulty identifying the hotel. (as did another guest who stopped me looking for directions) Parking was provided on the street, however I required a parking permit from the hotel to allow me time for check-out. Another parking facility was available, but it was further down the street, so not very convenient. The hotel was in a great location within walking distance of shopping, pubs/restaurants and walking trails. I had a clean comfortable bed and nice bathroom.

Not worth the cost
Hotel newly refurbished, but basic things are not correct. Housekeeping left such a mess in common area that is was difficult to go from lift to room without dodging housekeeping mess. Light fixture "blew out" when turned on. towel had to be requested. toilet paper had to be requested one day. New plush carpet does not hide the crooked floors that tilted in many directions -the building is old. walking on the crooked floors made me dizzy at times. water in toilet kept running all the time. shower very difficult to regulate, even with fancy new fixtures. I would not stay here again. Expensive for what you get.

For a recent renovation, it would have been good if they had put a bigger bed in than a double. The wifi only worked in the lobby, not yet in the rooms, and the bathroom sink plug was already broken. Breakfast is best avoided, its an extra charge, and not worth the cost.

Slightly scruffy exterior, no immediate parking but free car parks close. Hotel appears to be an old hotel that is being modernised. Rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable with modern décor. Restaurant, where we had breakfast, looked in need of modernisation, but breakfast was excellent. We lost access to cold water overnight (probably a plumbing fault, i.e. snagging following refurbishment) that was already in course of being repaired as we departed
