Excellent property and service. Be sure to follow the check in instructions youll get by text. Rooms are really nice and in a very good area for bars and restaurants. Highly recommended

Did not like the keypad entry and it took us two or three tries before we could gain entry both to the hotel and to our room. When we finally managed to get into the property it was dark and the lights did not come on until we were halfway up the stairs.
Communication was poor from the point of booking; no access details when promised, and a lack of information on the current key code throughout our visit. The shower was faulty - it was clearly broken before we arrived but hadn't been checked - so we had to use inferior facilities in a just vacated room. We left the room when the plumber arrived and were not told when the repair was complete so we might return. When we came to use the shower the following day the water temperature was set too high and was quite uncomfortable. On the whole our stay was chaotic. When we complained about our substandard stay the response was that these matters were "beyond our control" when obviously good communication and regular maintenance checks are matters that are very easily controlled. Staff were very pleasant, however given the chaos this hotel is not recommended.

Unnamed reception so a bit clumsy getting in but overall the room and location were good
NIce hotel with free overnight on-street parking outside, which starts charging at 9am - if you get a £1 parking disk from local stores you can use to set an arrival time for the next morning which will give you til 11am and can be used widely across Northumberland. The stairs are tight, so if you have heavy luggage you may struggle. Breakfast was great and made getting up for the 10am check out worthwhile.

No reception - which we knew about. Very dark with difficult stairs. Breakfast staff great but no decaf available
To expensive for what you get, small room smells of damp, shabby and cold, no reception to speak to and breakfast was average at best. wont be staying here again and would not recommend for anyone else
A perfect place to stay for a night or even longer
Really lovely and cosy hotel in the heart of the town. They thought of everything - even the welcome book that had a history of the building and the local area. It was engaging and fun to take time to read. The facilities were excellent and the breakfast served was tasty and set us up for the day. I would 100% recommend this hotel to everyone.
A bit awkward gaining access via keypad but once in everything fine. Excellent room and breakfast so all good.

Is unstaffed, hence staff score. The staff we did see were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was ok. For me, it was nice to have the run of the place. The hotel was quite cold during the day, even in the rooms (but it was cold outside, to be fair).
Nobody available during check-in. They sent a message via sms however, they didnt do this until we were at the hotel. The message contained a key code to get into the empty hotel but when we got to our room there was no key in the door. We phoned them.and they said just to use another room.with a key in the door....what a faff.

Our first experience wasn't great because we discovered the Queens Head wasn't tended full time and we had to call an emergency number. However,we discovered that the sister hotel, the Castle had a room and in the circumstances they paid for a taxi to collect our luggage so all was well in the end. The Castle was very cosy and the staff were very helpful and polite
A very comfy room and the few staff we met were great. Breakfast was excellent and Heather was a gem!
A bit disappointing that the hotel is closed apart from the rooms and breakfast service. It’s not that evident when you book so maybe they should make it more obvious.
Parking was free in the car park 100 yds away but only for 24hrs at a time. So we parked there through the day and then moved the car to the street outside the hotel which has free parking from 17:30 to 09:00.
Our only concern was the fact one person left the front door open twice and with no staff at the hotel we felt a little vulnerable.
We would stay again though.
