An enjoyable stay

Very clean and comfortable room. Friendly and welcoming staff and lovely continental breakfast included in price. Plenty of on-street parking near the hotel and within walking disrance to.the main centre. Good value for money. Our only complaint was that the restaurant was not serving food in the evening as the chef was away. One of the reasons we had chosen the hotel was that it had a restaurant, and food choices nearby were limited unless walking some distance. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you

It’s basically a pub, opposite railway station, offering a basic continental breakfast, packaged cereal etc. I went instead to the Thistle-Do-Me in nearby Walkergate for a delicious inexpensive breakfast. The only time I stayed for dinner there was none available in absence of chef. I was alone in room for three and found storage inadequate and found the wi-fi too weak to use unless I went out on the landing. Older clientele but mostly fit hikers with small cases/backpacks who could negotiate the steep stairs. Heating was on but via a timer. Shower fine. Excellent access to trains and buses, hiking trails, castle and river walks along with good restaurants and shops. Great town to stay made up for average accommodation.

Disappointed

When I arrived I discovered that hotels.com had mistakenly mentioned parking on site but there was none - I had to pay £7 to park in the station carpark. Then when I saw the bedroom I was disappointed by the size of the room and the size of the hand basin.

Clean room if decor a little tired. Our tv didn’t work but three separate members of staff tried to sort it out which they did eventually. Staff lovely and friendly.

Excellent Hotel and Staff

Hotel is very clean, reasonably priced and the breakfast is good. Handy for the town centre and the historic walls for a walk. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Stayed a few times now for work and always look to stay here when working in the area.

On the whole good stay. But…I believed there was free parking but I had to pay for parking at railway station opposite. And I believed I had already booked and paid for my dog but on arrival was told I owed extra. I booked through Expedia and was told by the staff at hotel that it was Expedia’s fault as they don’t take payment for dogs prior to the stay. The breakfast was only continental which isn’t made clear when booking.

Super Hotel

Super choice of hotel as it is near the station, so it easy to get to & from. It is also located a bit away from the main shopping area, so quieter than if nearer the town. The staff too were very friendly & helpful.
