An overnight stay after a challenging day with personal family issues. A quiet room in a hotel that suited my time -arriving late after a long journey. The hotel seconds walking time from Berwick upon Tweed station met my needs.

Didn’t quite get what I paid for…

I was travelling with my sister, so booked a Triple room so that we could share, but have separate beds. Contacted the hotel via Hotels.com a few days ahead to ask about check-in, stating the specific room I had booked - a triple - but had no reply. The next I heard from them was that they’d taken payment. Only when I emailed the hotel direct did I have a response, but no mention was made regarding any issue with the room. My sister checked in slightly before me & unloaded - into a very small double room. At no point had the change in room been communicated, so I had to flag it with the front desk when I arrived slightly before 7pm. The hotel had overbooked the triple rooms but either no-one had noticed, or bothered to communicate it to me, despite charging me the triple room price. The lady on the desk was very apologetic and refunded me the price of the 2 cooked breakfasts I’d paid for (continental-only is included in the room rate) so the overcharge was lessened, but I would rather have had better communication or the room I paid for! It appeared that refunding food was all she was able to do in the system. All that aside, the rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast very nice and staff very friendly. But bookings and communication via third-party platforms need improving. Overbooking more expensive rooms is really not on!

Lovely break

The hotel was excellent for us. The staff were brilliant and very helpful, the food was all wonderful and the location was perfect. There were some very minor faults i could give if pushed, but overall it was a very enjoyable stay.

I had a lovely stay at The Castle Hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. I especially enjoyed the cozy bar – a perfect spot to unwind in the evening. Friendly staff and a charming atmosphere made it a great experience overall!

While working nights in the area, I was arriving at the Castle Hotel each morning around 0645. Fiona and Milly had breakfast ready for me and always asked if I required anything for my rest period. Food was first class and the personal attention afforded to the guests at breakfast is outstanding. Well done Fiona and Milly. Highly recommended.

The property was clean and tidy . After the first day the room had not been attended to . No clean towels , shower gel and shampoo . When making the reception aware she said normally you inform them when this is needed . The following day i informed the maid what was required and it was carried out . She politely appologised .

Great location on the High Street. Everything was pleasant, can tell the property had been refurbished so was nice enough but done so on a budget. Still things that could be improved creaky floorboards etc. Provided good value and would stay again
