Wonderful hotel in a great location

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Tayko. The hotel is really cool, incorporating the old outside of a brick building into the main area of the hotel. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. The only issue we had was when we discovered I made a mistake with the dates and hadn't cancelled the last night like I should have. The person I talked to when we checked in was really kind about it and suggested I talk to her boss the next day to see about a possible refund or discount for that night, but when I started to explain to the boss, she immediately told me there was nothing she could do. I understood the cancellation policy, but for her to say she "couldn't" do anything, when it was clear that she could but just wouldn't kind of rubbed me the wrong way, especially given how expensive the room was. But I understood it was my mistake so we moved on. The thing that really bothered me was on the day we were leaving, they called our room to ask when we were departing, likely so they could rebook our room. So they couldn't help me out at all, but they could make double on our room. Not cool. Other than that, it was a great experience and I would definitely stay there again.

We absolutely loved staying at Hotel Tayko! From the moment we arrived we were met by friendly and efficient staff - especially the lady on reception whose name means lovely in Basque! She not only checked us in but also gave us a brief history of the hotel and its unique and quirky style. The room was elegant and stylish and the facilities were great - with its neat side bar. Thank you to all staff who made our stay there the best ! I would highly recommend this hotel to future guests.

Very good food, friendly staff and an easy walk (less than 10 minutes) from the Bilbao-Abando train station. Very close to many great restaurants, Plaza Nueva, and about a 20 minute walk to the Guggenheim. Fantastic hotel.

Breakfast service

We had very poor service at breakfast on our second day. On arrival, some tables were free but not cleaned. We were met by one of the wait staff, who said he would clean a table and then disappeared for over 15 mins. Despite other staff passing by, we were ignored before a young lady staff member helped us out. The two others seemed to be running around like headless chickens but accomplishing very little. We also noticed other guests with issues related to their orders. Lastly, for a Michelin star restaurant, the food offering is sub standard and tasteless

Great hotel in great location.

Great hotel in great location and a quirky building. Excellent service and excellent made to order breakfast. Only complaint is that the room was small with minimal storage. Ok for 3 nights but we couldn’t unpack our cases!
