Drastically overpriced for what it was. Very old, toilet broke and had to change rooms without anything complimentary as an apology.

The BW Nostalgia collection
The Priory is a beautiful hotel from BW’s 1980’s nostalgia collection, and this one didn’t disappoint. Complete with original furniture, moody lighting, 8:30pm restaurant/room service close, creaky floors and single glaze drafty windows.
You can tell they’ve worked hard to replicate the late 80’s look. They even provide a complimentary jar of parma violets and swizzels drumsticks!
My only complaint is that I couldn’t get Ceefax on the tv (couldn’t get much else either).
Well worth a visit if you grew up in the 80’s and enjoy a stroll along memory lane. Won’t suit those looking for something modern and comfortable.
Easy to find, short(ish) walk into town, quiet hotel (at least where we slept)nice breakfast facilities a "help yourself" didn't have an evening meal as we ate in town (plenty to choose from)if you didn't want a drink in the hotel bar there's a pub across the road "The Tollgate" plenty of outside seating and food available.A pleasant stay for our weekend.
Made to feel very welcome and spoiled on arrival .
Had great breakfast and rooms very spacious .
Very reasonably priced . Would definatley stay again

Liked: Staff & service
3 night stay for local business, conveniently positioned hence the choice, Obviously a historical building can't be designed like a purpose built characterless chain, but depending on the nature of your visit this may either be welcomed, or a frustration. Staff were very friendly and helpful, just a shame they don't have a building that matches the standards they achieve. Room was small, full of patina....and cavernous bathroom had a shower that produced water at random temperatures, irrespective of its settings, stair carpet extremely dirty. Only the excellent staff would make me consider this as a suitable choice for a business stopover in the future.
