Riu was great. My friends and I had a blast. There are some inefficiencies that could be upgraded but overall it was good. Our biggest complaint was the room cards, we've visited the royalton where thwy had automatic wristband/keys that worked great. The room card at RIU kept getting desensitized. Also, there was a lot of seaweed. While thats inevitable it was surprising that thw staff spent hours shovelling seaweed into plastic bags rather than have a better system/process.

It’s a great place to stay. Great food, clean and safe. The only downfall to this amazing trip, is that you cannot enjoy the beach at all. The beach is full of seaweed. So if you are planning on enjoying the beach. Make other plans. It’s not doable.

what i didn't like was the way the property over charged me to add a person $xxx usd to my reservation. the price expedia gave me is not what the Resort charge me when i arrived. I would pick a different hotel without hidden fees

Review of RIU Cancun My recent stay at the RIU in Cancun was a complete disappointment, and I feel compelled to share my experience to help others avoid the same fate. First and foremost, the quality of the alcohol served was alarming. It felt like they substituted proper liquor with something akin to methane, which, to my shock, lit up purple instead of the usual blue. This meant that the all-inclusive package either consisted of countless virgin drinks or an unpleasant gamble with what they called alcohol. The staff was shockingly rude, which added to our discomfort during the stay. My 48-year-old self and my daughter faced an alarming incident outside the hotel where we were attacked by two local girls. Despite our cries for help, the security staff seemed indifferent and allowed the situation to escalate, which made us feel unsafe. Moreover, our troubles began even before we reached the hotel. Upon landing, we encountered multiple scams at the airport, making us feel unwelcome and targeted as tourists. The taxi situation was chaotic, with aggressive individuals yelling and trying to trick us into overpriced rides. I stayed at the Riu Las American, which initially offered access to their various resorts. However, I believe that the overall experience was poor enough to warrant a serious warning to potential guests: save your money and choose a different destination. My advice is to avoid Mexico entirely if you value your safety and peace of mind.

Great experience from check-in to check-out. Staff was very friendly and accommodated every request. Plenty of dining options and food was well prepared. Access to the other RIU properties was a bonus. Only downside was excessive amounts of seaweed in the ocean. This was obviously no one's fault but made the beach at the hotel unusable if you wanted to swim in the ocean. Really only a minor inconvenience. Would highly recommend and should we have the chance to travel to Cancun again this property would be at the top of our list.
