The hotel room was dirty, soiled linen and also an animal in the room either a squirrel or rat making a s watching noise which frightened the children and resulted in no sleep. This was reported to the hotel and they requested we take up with hotels.com

Greeting at reception was nice and friendly. Main entrance and hotel reception area very nice. Our room was quite a way from the main hotel. Room was ok - underwhelming for a superior room, but adequate for a one night stay. Evening meal very enjoyable although service was average as waitress seemed not to be very happy. Walking back from hotel was very dark. Did ask reception if someone could drive us back, but was told she was the only one on duty. Overall quite nice.

Nice hotel in great location

We liked the gym and pool, and the cast iron restaurant was good, the location was great, and the staff were helpful. A couple of things that stopped us giving a higher rating - there was a sticky stain on the sheets when we arrived (which they came and changed) and a blue sticky substance on one of the towels. We also ordered room service from the bar menu and the food was disappointing and did not match the description (like regular fries rather than sweet potato fries).

Great but really for golfers not romance

This is a lovely hotel but clearly orientated towards serving the golf club. We had hoped for a more settled and refined (romantic) weekend and I don’t think this was right for that. The room was comfortable and the bed very much so. Slightly misleading that it was advertised as (and paid for) having a courtyard view; it didn’t due to the nature of the obscured glass and if the door was open then there was a loss of privacy. The courtyard was also the vehicular route to check in so was sometimes busy. The staff were all lovely and cheerful. In a check-in survey I commented that it was unusual to not have a fridge and member of housekeeping then brought one over so they acted on feedback. One person on reception when we arrived and she was doing really well at managing quite a queue, well done. The breakfast was excellent.

Over priced stay!

There was no air conditioning within the room which was not good in hot weather, there was a desktop fan but this didn’t help much at all. The room was spacious and the bed very comfy, but the bathroom smelt of the drains and the shower pressure was poor

Nice staff but poor room and restaurant.

Lovely helpful staff throughout the hotel. The room was a disappointment though - our Superior Lakeside View With Balcony was next to a smelly and noisy sewage plant, didn't have a balcony and we had to squint through trees to see the lake. In the restaurant, food took an age to come (many other guests weren't happy) and was 'Little Chef quality'. Unlikely to return.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was adequate. Some areas could have done with a better clean. Dirty windows, bath in the corners, wasn't very clean and if you lay in the bath, you could see only tops have been cleaned and not the undersides The bed was comfortable, however, the mattress topper was smaller than the mattress, so was a gap eitherside, making the bed smaller. There was quite a lot of noise at 6am every morning from the quests beneath us. Sounded like a blender going! And housekeeping came round just after 8am A bit early, when your on holiday. Also a bit tight on the biscuits, only one each. But did like the shampoo and conditioner supplied.

I checked out today. I was in room 327. At around 10pm last night I had a spasm and my wife needed to call an ambulance. There was no signal. The phone in the room was broken. My wife was terrified. She ended up running up and down the corridor to get signal. Eventually able to get through to 999. Minutes count here. WiFi was terrible. No way to contact reception. Everything could have been worse. The ambulance made it. I was ok but could have been much worse. The mattress was terrible. All I could feel was springs. No sleep and on checkout I was advised there would be a manager contact me. No email. No call no nothing. Worst hotel in experience I have ever had.

Disappointing Experience – Would Not Return Our stay started off poorly and unfortunately never improved. After flying in from overseas, we arrived well before 3pm and asked if there was any chance of getting into a room early. Despite explaining our situation — tired, jet-lagged, and soaked from the rain — the front desk was adamant about the 3pm check-in time. We were told rooms weren’t ready, yet the hotel was clearly not full and seemed to have plenty of available space. We ended up waiting in the lobby for nearly three hours, uncomfortable and exhausted. When we finally did get into our room, things didn’t get much better. The rooms are very outdated and poorly maintained. Dust was everywhere, and we noticed several spiders both in our room and around the property. Everything felt neglected and past its prime — not what you expect for the price or from a supposedly well-rated property. All in all, this was a disappointing stay. Between the inflexible service and the lack of basic cleanliness and upkeep, we won’t be returning.

What a Fantastic Hotel

Great Hotel we stsyed here as we were attending a concert at Caldicot Castle. Staff were very friendly and rhe accommodation was very nice. The breakfast was so tasty with such a large selection. Will definitely be back.
