The best kept secret in Chester. You step outside the gate and you’re straight onto the side of river. Such a peaceful place to stay, yet within a 5 minute walk of the park, town wall and the town centre.
Great property and lovely pub indoor and outdoor. Loved sitting outside with a drink at the side of the river. The rooms were lovely and quirky. Great location
right down on the the river was excellent and the accomodation was quiet and clean [toilet roll holder was falling off the wall ]the lighting was nice but it was too dim to take a shave. The food was typical bar fare and was ok.Breakfast was a bit chaotic[the staff] and if you arrived in approx. the last 45 mins. a lot of the food was gone and was not replaced, i.e. fruit ,yogurt and on our 1st morning coffee from the cafetiere. All in all i would give our stay 8 out of 10.
Room number 1 very big, overall cleanliness good bathroom bit grubby around shower, black mould.Restaurant nice, breakfast Saturday morning really good and staff fantastic.Sunday morning, tables not cleared, staff very slow had to keep asking for butter and pot of tea wasn't busy but kept waiting.Good overall would stay again as lovely location and quick walk into Chester.
Lovely relaxing stay at the boathouse. All staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.
Room was really nice and comfortable.
Food was really tasty. Breaskfast and evening meal.
Loved the outdoor barge area in the sunshine and beautiful setting on the riverbank.
Definately will return and recommend to friends and family
Stayed last winter had a great time , upgraded to a larger room this time and so glad we did .
Service and food were great , room just needs a mini fridge to take it to the next level .

I would love to give this property top marks and if my wife and i had stayed any time but during a heatwave I am sure that would be the case. The bad first, the room we were in was sweltering could not sleep could not even sit for long in the day. The good, great room and en suite. Restaurant and bar really good, with riverside seating. Staff excellent. Food we had in the hotel was the best we had during our stay in Chester. What a shame the room was so so hot.
All very good.
The bathroom fan didn't work and so the room (2) got very humid... those rooms get hot in the sun, so that didn't help.
The doorstop was broken when I arrived, by the way, which I mentioned to someone behind the bar. Everything else 10/10
What a perfect spot to stay when visiting Chester. Wonderful riverside location, easy access to the city wall, centre and park. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Food was great at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The room was comfortable and clean (even though it overlooked the car park, there wasn't an issue with noise). If anything could be criticised - it would be the fact the rooms are south facing and have full length glass (meaning they do get warm). A fan was supplied. If we go to Chester again, we would certainly book another stay here.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Lovely stay, only a few snags, broken toilet roll holder, miss matched cups and only filtered decaf coffee. Would definitely return!
We felt so lucky to have found and stayed here.
The location is fantastic, being on the riverside and so close to the town centre. We loved watching the rowing clubs in action right outside the restaurant.
The staff, food and choice of drinks were more than we could have hoped for.
The room itself wasn't horrible but I've stayed in a lot better. The bed was quite hard and was just two singles pushed together.
The toilet seat didn't appear to be very clean with heavy yellow stains underneath.
There were strange ornaments above the bed which were actually rowboat seats, not a problem but when laying on the bed you could see they were really thick with dust behind.
The shower cubicle was big and superbly clean.
We would definitely stay again.
