Cozy and convenient location
Randomly stopped at one of their bars in the past and recognized it when looking for a hotel for a few nights in Chicago. Decided to book. Room was smaller than I figured but not in a bad way. It was unique and cozy. Would not hesitate to stay again.

Great value for the location! So much within walking distance, including a red line train station, Michigan Ave and Rush St. If you don't mind a smaller room, I highly recommend the Freehand.

Its unique, beautiful, convenient, staff is super friendly and chill; they definitely made us feel welcomed and had genuine interactions. We came in on October so it was a good weather but definitely not cold. We needed a/c, they explained the building was already preparing for winter so the a/c was off. They kindly brought to our room a small fan but for two it was still challenging. Overall it was an amazing experience and will stay again, but maybe not in that time of the year.

Busy area of course and a hopping youthful crowd in the public area. The cafe was delightful but our room was so small there was no place for luggage. lighting way too atmospheric even if trying to make for more economical rooms. Front desk staff neutral...not very friendly. It WAS quiet though which is great.

Couch was so gross we had to put a towel on it to use it - and we are not a picky family. Beds were nice and clean. Not shampoo is provided which I did not expect. Drain in the shower did not work so you had to stand in dirty water.

Great venue and location. Word to the wise, it’s an older building, so they don’t have centralized ventilation and can get suffocating. They do provide a fan, if asked.
