The Drake is an awesome place to stay downtown. Right next to the water (where you can rent bikes and go for a ride along the beach) and next to all shopping and food districts. Perfect stay.

Old and elegant, you do get old fixtures and such. We never could get the AC/Heat to work right, so most nights, we either shivered or mostly stripped off the bedding and most clothing. The very selective and restricting hours of their restaurants could have been highlighted better. On the other hand, our one meal at the Coq d’Or was among the best in Chicago, despite going to other popular and trendy restaurants. And offering Lavazza coffee in the rooms is a big plus!

The Drake is an experience not just a hotel. It has history and charm and yet offers wonderful modern conveniences. It has an amazing location near the beach, shopping, tourist and transportation services. It does lack in a few items: no concierge but a willing staff who tries to help recommend restaurants and tourist spots and not enough outlets in the bedroom so we're glad we had an extension cord.

The Drake lives up to expectations.

Our stay at the Drake was absolutely amazing. The entire hotel was very well maintained. Our room was very spacious and clean. Two bathrooms in the room definitely made my other half happy and I could take my time..lol. The staff was very attentive and someone was always reachable. The bar inside the hotel was an extra treat with live music, friendly Chicagoans who also enjoy the bar. The food and drinks were simply 5 star. We would stay there again anytime.

Grand but outdated

The hotel itself is gorgeous and the communal rooms are stunning. The staff were nice enough, valets were particularly nice. We found the rooms themselves to be dated. I was really surprised at the complete lack of effort to be eco friendly at all. No recycling, no refillable gels in the shower, asking customers to drink out of plastic bottled water. For the prices and grandeur there could at least be a filtered water tap on each floors. It is really disappointing given the age and climate we are living in.
