Needed to stop over for 1 night on a business trip. Thia was a great find. Old world pub with lovely feel. Great food at Dinner and Breakfast with a lovely comfortable room and facilities. Will definitely be back.
Stayed at The Bear a few years ago when it had just refurbished it has become slightly worn and tired. Cushion in the room was old and stained. The coffee table was wobbly. The bathroom was very and good towels toiletries etc.,excellant. Dinner and breakfst great.
I stay away from home a lot and book different venues. This has to be the best room/ensuite I have stayed in so far in 2024 (now in October). Room was lovely, bed was super comfortable. There was a desk to work at in the room, wardrode for hanging clothes, good sized TV on the wall, chairs next to an easy table, wall fitted aircon unit. Ensuite was a great size, with a sensor night light so you did not have to turn on main light in ensuite. Breakfast does not start until 8am, but they do offer a continental breakfast if you have to leave early.
Lovely hotel! Beautiful rooms, lovely location, excellent breakfast and great service. We booked pet friendly room and it was beautiful with little bowl and treats on arrival for our boy! Which was a lovely surprise
We stayed one night at The Bear and loved it! It’s a beautifully curated boutique hotel with lots of quirky and bear-themed art and accessories in the rooms and restaurant.
Our room was immaculately clean, decorated really well with a Nespresso machine, kettle, air con and Dyson fan and a small table and chairs. It also had the largest bathroom we’ve ever had in a hotel with a huge walk in shower with rainfall head plus a bath! One small and unique detail was a voucher for a complimentary gin & tonic in the bar and chocolates (and the gin collection was quite something!).
Staff were very good at check-in and attentive in the bar and at breakfast. Breakfast consisted of a cold buffet of pastries, granola, yoghurt, fresh fruit and juices then followed with a cooked-to-order choice. Food was delicious.
Only 5-10 minutes from Christchurch harbour and Highcliffe in the other direction.
All in all, our stay here was excellent and we would love to return again and would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone.
Have stayed twice and eaten three times, for business travel. The rooms are clean, with AC, nice ensuites good coffee and chocolates and have lovely, "bear" related themes, like door knobs, towels and coasters. The food is of a very good standard, far better than normal pub fare. Genuinely a cut above being a pub with rooms, will stay again at the next possible opportunity.
Excellent room and bathroom. Spotlessly clean and lovely fresh linens.
Many amenities in the room. Nespresso, teas, milk, water, chocolates.
Room even had air conditioning!
Good evening meal and breakfast two.
Lovely decor all over.
We stayed in a comfort room. Great idea to keep some rooms pet free, which ours was.Good range of quality toiletries provided. The curtains were long, thick and lined, so not woken by the early morning light. We live in a village with very little light pollution so bright light in a morning can be a problem.
Room has bluetooth speaker so able to play our own music, It also has a coffee maker.
Dinner was excellent. Simple food brilliantly executed +served really hot. Breakfast next morning was also wonderful. Plenty of choice + good quality.
We stayed mid week, so no issues over noise. The hotel is a wedding venue, so could be an issue at the weekend. Our room overlooked the deck + again may not have been so tranquil in warmer weather if guests were drinking + chatting on the deck until late.
All in all would not hesitate to stay there again.
One suggestion would be to have a couple of small comfortable chairs in the room. to relax in, as you had to sit on bed. Room had a free standing full length mirror when wardrobe had one too?.
Only criticism would be that the tel no on the website gave a message after 6.00 pm saying that the tel is only on 8.00 until 6.00. Transpired the call had gone through to Fullers. Guests should be able to call the hotel direct + talk to reception.
This is a lovely country hotel with beautiful rooms and really great food. Service was friendly and relaxed.
Lots of beautiful small details in the room - lovely bathroom products, Nespresso machine, and chocolates to enjoy. The hot breakfast included in the price was really good and lots of choice to cater for all tastes!
Hotel was well maintained. I was initially concerned when I saw the room as we were in the loft area that was compromised by the roof beams however even though I am over 6ft tall I only banged my head once. The only issue with the room was the air conditioner that was very noisy. We turned it off in the early hours however this did result in the room being rather warm. That was our only issue, the food and service were both very good and the coffee/tea making (and complementary G&T) were all welcome. We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
