Elevator smelled horrible!!! Carpet did not fit and was clearly molded. Original room assignment was 2 floors with a metal spiral staircase. Carpet was in terrible condition and appeared dirty and faded. Bedroom was inconvenient and horribly hot. Furniture was too large for the room and you could not access the bed on one side. While I am handicapped I don’t need an accessible room but I could not navigate the staircase. We changed our room and everything was better. Newer carpet, no odor and on one floor. Breakfast was expensive at 10 euro each. Coffee was warm at best and the food selection poor. Basics only. However when you are in an unfamiliar country with not much around you take what you can get. Wait staff seemed short handed. After spending the day in Rome we stopped in the restaurant for ice cream which was advertised on the sign outside the hotel. After 20 minutes with no one coming to the table we left. The online pictures make the hotel seem far more grand than it is and all in all it was disappointing. Yes, we knew it was and old structure but did not expect what we received for something considered a 5-Star. I think it all depends where you are standing in the world as to the rating. We survived but would not recommend. The day we left for the ship there was yet another additional rather large fee.
I can understand the lack of free shuttle service from the Rome airport, well over $100, but the shuttle to the ship should have been included in the stay.
