Unaware of pool closure

It was a nice hotel but our stay was impacted by the pool closure as we had specifically booked the hotel for the use of the pool and were not informed before our stay that it would be closed. If this wasn’t the case we wouldn’t have a bad thing to say

The hotel is saved by the helpfulness of the staff but appears to run by someone who has never stayed in a business hotel, let alone managed one. On arrival you are given an A4 sheet of paper with information on it. You need this as there is no folder in the room explaining anything. Not in your room is a room service menu. You have to go to reception or the bar to get one. Come on guys, get more printed and put them in bedrooms. Not in your room is instructions on how to use the thermostat. You will need this if you need to be moved to another room because the TV doesn't work in the first one and has also been left with sticky drink stains on the desk. And if the new room is freezing cold because the heating is off. If you need any help from hotel staff you will also need your A4 sheet as this is where you will find out that the telephones in the hotel bedrooms don't work so you have to use your mobile to phone reception. You've probably spent so much time actually getting a clean room with a tv that works and with the heating on that you have missed your opportunity to go for a swim. You might not feel like one when you are standing in reception for for umpteenth time and see a succession of freezing cold, damp guests running in at the entrance and through the lobby because there is no internal connection between the hotel and the pool. 8.80 for a glass of red wine. Don't go for the cooked breakfast. Horrible, Continental amazingly good. Bathroom a highlight,

Always good staying here. They had a new chef who is testing out a new Indian menu and his taster menu was excellent. Check in is always fuss free and quick, which is what i like.

I was hugely looking forward to staying at the delta Marriott. The listing made it look amazing. Unfortunately my stay didn’t live up to my expectations. First the positives….the staff are fabulous and extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms have been renovated and are nice. Now the negatives: The google map listing ( Supplied via clicking my Expedia booking) repeatedly sends you to the wrong address….first to a housing estate in central Colchester and then to a service station on the A12. The hotel acknowledged they are aware of this issue. My next gripe was the bar area isn’t very cosy at all. It’s very much a transiant hotel….workers overnighting. My final gripe is the worst…..I had a room with interlocking doors…..I could her the woman in the next room like she was in with me….poor woman was very ill. I know this because she couldn’t stop coughing…..so loudly in fact that I had to turn my tv up…..then she was on the phone on loud speaker….so I heard all her relationship woes as she spoke to her best friend….i then heard her go to the toilet….and have a shower. (Yes really). Really really poor. The final nail in the coffin was I had booked specifically because they had a pool…..and this was out of order since Christmas….no note on the listing to indicate this. I have heard this was a migrant hotel…,and you can still tell this.

Think twice before you reserve a room

Wasn’t able to book breakfast on the original reservation so rang up and was told it’s all fine and I could add breakfast for £10 pp at check in. I was charged £14 pp and when I questioned this I was told the price has ‘just gone up because of a pancake machine!’. On their own website they only state £12 pp as a last resort. Make sure you do your homework and double check, as you could be fleeced like me. Room was stone cold and heating switched off with no instructions as outside doors opposite room were open and fire doors held open with fire extinguisher. Breakfast was awful. It’s the cheapest ingredients and terrible presentation. I have stayed many times before and it was always a nice hotel. Don’t be fooled by the ‘refurbishment’, everything about this place is now cheap, except the price tag!
