This is a gorgeous old seafront property that I first stayed in 40 years ago. They have, thankfully, upgraded the bathrooms since my original stay and the rooms are really lovely and in keeping with the style/age of the property. Breakfast is a delight with fantastic choices both Asian and western at The Verandah and the staff in the morning are lovely and really helpful, even bringing a cake to the table with candles and singing to my husband on his birthday! Insist on a king room if you want a larger bed as they seem to have many twins. They definitely need to do some maintenance on the outside of the property, pool deck has issues and there were electricity problems in the bathrooms/gym near the pool. The housekeeping is also inconsistent, we had one person who was fabulous for the first night and thereafter things were missed. Despite a few failings I will return to this hotel!

Delicious buffet style dining spreads for breakfast, lunch, high tea, and dinner. Beautiful dining/ lawn area overlooking the water - booked the hotel to attend friend’s wedding at the hotel - event went smoothly, staff were really hospitable, top notch and speed laundry and dry cleaning service. Regal, historic property with its own unique charm.

This is a classic old world hotel with updated modern amenities. We always stay here. The location is excellent too, and it is the only hotel in Colombo right on the water.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was full of old world charm and we could feel the history all around us. Our room was quiet, spacious and very comfortable. Sehr schönes altes Hotel, dem man noch den alten Glanz ansieht. Hotel ist sauber , aber nicht gut gepflegt. Schönes Zimmer mit toller Terrasse mit Meerblick, bequeme Betten. Schreckliches Frühstück mit eingeschränkter Auswahl und zumindest nicht ganz hygienischem Aussehen. Leider fast ganztags Beschallung mit Musik, zeitweise sogar aus verschiedenen Quellen, hellhörige Zimmer. Bei dem schönen Gebäude etc. könnte man soviel mehr daraus machen.
