We enjoyed the historic element of the hotel. We also enjoyed the restaurant and the service of the staff. I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a break from the busyness of the city.

Faded but fun old grand dame. Worth a one-night st
It was fun to stay in this elegant grande dame once but I wouldn’t do it again. Our room was fine, but has definitely seen better days. The food was mediocre, and service at both the bar and dinner super slow. Staff all perfectly friendly.

This is a very old historic property, and it has quite some charm because of that. However, the rooms have not been maintained. The windows are leaky and the wet sea air gets in making your clothes and the linens – and moist. There was just general lack of maintenance for the property. The staff are very nice, but they do not understand the meaning of service and many times you would be waiting For just a cup of tea at the buffet. Also, the locks for the rooms are just regular keys, not electronics so the security level is a bit lacking. They tried to be accommodating because the first two rooms I looked at were not OK for my mom who I was traveling with because they all had steps up into the bathroom. My brother decided not to stay there and went across the road to ITC, which is a new hotel and the price there was actually lower than the price that we were paying per night.

Extended trip at end of Sri Lanka tour. Hotel staff friendly and professional. Excellent buffet breakfast, high tea and dinner. Pool area is a bit public. Renovations happening at time of visit. Outside hotel Lots of Tuk Tuk drivers and men impersonating themselves to be locals giving advise dressed smartly, one man told us he was an engineer which we doubt very much trying to get us on a Gems Tuk Tuk tour. Need to walk near beach if don't want to be annoyed put us off spending more time walking around the city. Not the hotels fault they keep people off the premises. The hotel is located in the tourist area so off course you are targeted.Never felt in danger the touts and drivers were not aggressive.

Lovely old hotel located by the beach . Very charming hotel. Loved the hotel but the service ( bar and restaurant) was very poor. Was disappointed with the staff especially since all our others hotel stays in Sri Lanka were excellent with outstanding staff. Would stay there again because of the location and the unique hotel.

Beautiful historic hotel- great location, convenient walking to shops, Fort, Pettah, train station, Hospital Street dining options. Staff outstanding. Room clean & very clean. We did ask for king bed yet for 2 king singles. Their pub (Inn on the Green) was great low-key. Pool excellent even whilst area under renovation.

Have stayed in hotel many times and it's always a pleasure to come back to. While it's an old hotel very classy the meals are good the grounds are superb and it's in a great location
