This is a hotel to enjoy, not just a stop over!
We really enjoyed the ambience and our stay here, such an exquisite hotel full of character and art. The dinner and breakfast was amazing which has a limited menu but very well done. We wouldn’t hesitate to go back !

Absolutely Charming Hotel
Had a a lovely stay even though it was only for a night. Our time here was relaxed and our room was warm and inviting. Food was lovely although would have liked more choice on the menu for Dinner and Breakfast. Extra costs for drinks and dinner supplements were quite resonable. All in all a great break in an absolutely beautiful hotel which was warm clean and beautifully decorated to a high standard. Staff were friendly and attentive and chatty about the local area. would recommend to anyone for a night or a few days break and I will be back with my girlfriends for a girlie Birthday treat and with my hubby for a nice anniversary or night away stay. Excellent Hotel.

Ghastly! All down to Luciano Pierre White
Pack your bags immediately if Luciano Pierre White is on duty and you’ve booked through Hotels, Bookings, Wowcher, Groupon etc as he will treat you with contempt, a third class customer and something the cat threw up. If he’s not on duty you will have a lovely time as the staff, especially Junior and Finn, will treat you like royalty. How they put up with Luciano’s appalling rudeness, misogyny and lying beggars belief. The food is tasty but everything seems to have a surcharge, the choice is minimal, wine prices exorbitant and the menu doesn’t change from day to day. Rooms are funky and spacious even in the annex, plenty of drawing rooms to chill in decorated like a taxidermist’s parlour. The rules and regulations are Orwellian- thou shalt not have a second breakfast unless you pay £99, drinks and snacks in your bedroom pay a further £40 a day. I just think so much could be made more customer friendly so you come away wanting to return and recommend to others but this was Fawlty Towers without the humour, I’ve travelled the world and no hotel has ever been this bad for customer care .. all down to Luciano’s behaviour. PS: My lovely, gentle and polite 60 year old friend was chucked out of her room by Luciano because the key had broken in the lock and she asked for an emergency locksmith to come and fix it so she could retrieve her belongings!

Disappointing
The property itself was nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, the experience that we had, that was about all of the positives. There were no signs in the hotel or on the grounds to tell you where reception was so when we arrived it was unclear where we had to go to check in. We only found the reception as a member of staff was walking by after we had wandered around for a bit and it wasn't obvious that it was reception. Once we were checked in and given the key to our room, we found the bathroom hadn't been cleaned and there was hair, dirty towels and cigarettes in the bathroom. We went back to reception to ask for a new room and whilst they were apologetic, the replacement room we were given had someone else's bag in it so had to go back to reception to make sure that we didn't have the keys to someone else's room. When checking in, we were also asked to confirm our dinner booking which we initially made for 7pm and was emailed the day before confiming if we were still attending (which I responded yes to) only to be advised they didn't have my booking and had to go for another time (6:30pm). This itself was fine, but there were still plenty of seats had we have gone for our original time. Whilst dinner and breakfast were included in the price, the food was pretty average which was a bit disappointing given the owner of the hotel. Overall, it wasn't the best hotel experience and I can't recommend staying here based on the above.

Cancelled on us when we turned up! STAY AWAY!!!
Turned away at arrival, told that they didn’t have space and our place had cancelled. No remorse told they would help with a refund, had no contact about cancelling. Horrendous a wasted five hour trip!

Unsafe slippy unlit paths to shepherds huts. Try to charge extra items for breakfast when included in the fee. Comfy beds and lovely fire when we got it lit.

A big dispointment
We booked a main luxe room as a bit of a treat, we wanted more space and a bath. We were looking foward to a touch of luxury and a good breakfast. On arrival we initially drove back out as we thought we had gone to the wrong place, as it was so dark and the signage was terrible. After a bit of wondering around we worked out wheree to check in. Our first problem arose from not having a credit card to guarantee the room, they wouldn't accept a debit card. I realise this isn't unheard of but we have never had this problem before. So we went off and sorted that out, came back and finished checking in. We got sent off to the annex building and vaguely pointed in the direction of our room. No offer of help with luggage. So off we went in the dark and wondered around some more to find the room. Annex building is rather scruffy. Got to the room, no bath, a bit stale smelling, and rather dusty. I try to check our booking confirmation only to find no wifi. Eventual manage to get on line and compare what we had booked to the room we were sent to which was obviously completely wrong. Back to reception to be told they had/hotels.com had over booked the luxe rooms and we had been down graded to a cosy double. Fine mistakes happen, can we get a refund for the extra we paid. No we have to raise a complaint through hotels.com, tricky with no wifi! To finish off breakfast service poor and slow, the bread for the toast was pre sliced hovis, and everything was cold. All in all pretty rubbish!

Hard to sum up our stay. Check in - took everything into main building only to be told our room was in the annex. Poor signage to find our room. Dinner - cheapest bottle of wine £45, very small glass of house red £10. Choice of only 3 main courses, cover charge, service charge and water charge - supplements everywhere. Breakfast - unchewable bratwurst and £5 orange juice as the man himself watched on! It was worth it for the telling of the tale to our family and friends!

Amazing decor, like a photography art gallery. Querqy and fun lounges. Restaurant in a garden room. Good food, ideal for one or two night stay.

Booked a shepherds hut, didn’t really know what to expect but was comfy and the log burner was ample for a cold night. Downside was in the advert it says WiFi, this is not in the hut area, only in main building and also I didn’t read anywhere on the booking that there was no electricity in the huts, sat in the main building to charge phones. Breakfast was included in the price and my go to breakfast is always poached eggs on toast, have to say (no surprise with who owns it) the best poached eggs on toast I’ve ever had (and I’m old). I hate hidden charges, it bugs me big time, went to check out and was told I needed to settle my bill? Of course I should have known I’d get charged £3 for a glass of water with my breakfast and £4 for the table service? All very odd in my opinion, please let people know the charges, it’s not about the money it’s the fact it’s hidden.
