This property is extremely dated and not well maintained. The property's website also stated that the buffet was available all day. That was one of the selling points. After arriving, we were told that the buffet was not available during lunches because it was "low season." It was odd that they offered "room service" as part of their all inclusive package, but there was no phone in the room to call for room service. There was one restaurant onsite that had the strictest dress code. A dress code that did not belong to a property in the state that is was in. The rooms were dirty and the AC in our room did not work. The only fix they had was to provide us with an oscillating fan that was rusted and on it's last leg. The curtain to was on rusted rails that were broken, with one set of wheels fallen off the tracks. The bathroom was not great. The shower stall door was in a state of disrepair. The quality of the food was poor and the number of birds swarming inside the eating area made us not want to sit for too long fearing bird crap falling on our heads or food. The only upside was that the water at the beach was nice. We lasted one night, making reservations for the next day at the Iberostar further down the island. The Iberostar was the extreme opposite of this property and saved our Cozumel holiday.

JUST DONT!!!! Pictures look good online, but the room it’s actually really bad, AC doesn’t work, the room smells Ike mold, the bathrooms are so old and rusty,I supposedly got one of the nicest suites and it was a completely disappointed, the food it’s terrible, everything seems diluted.. I could go on and on… but please just stay somewhere else I would recommend, el presidente or the Westin…

Everybody was super nice. The beds are hard. But I didn’t go to sleep. The ad said there was one excursion included per day but that was not true. We did one of the two that were offered that was $100 per person that was great. There was a sheet that had multiple excursions but I was told they weren’t available. That they only had two. They are doing lots of work on the place. The food was great. The snorkeling outside of El Cozumeleno was amazing. The drinks weren’t fancy but they were tasty. You could do the menu at all meals or buffet it. But for dinner, make the reservations.

Service was great even though staff was minimal. Food was excellent. Large pool was in dire need of chemicals, very cloudy and green. No amount of vacuuming fixed the problem. No entertainment, all pool staff was required to paint outside areas, this was inappropriate for all of your guests. I have been coming here 20 years, and i was disappointed for the first time. I was sorry to see Christian leave, he's a longtime friend. For three days we had no hot water, then one of the shower handles broke, and thankfully maintenence fixed it fairly quickly. Thanks to the many staff members for excellent services, from wait staff, bartenders, Cesar, housekeeping, and Roberto in the lobby.

I hate having to leave a negative review as this was a return trip for us to this resort and we enjoyed our stay before. This time, however, we were extremely disappointed. First, the A/C could not keep up with the humidity, so everything in our room felt damp the whole time. There was always only one pool available, except for the last day of our stay, when they finally had both of them open. They did not have a lunch or dinner buffet available, like the last time we were there... so only had access to a very limited menu. We had dinner at the on-site restaurant only once, because the A/C wasn't functioning and it was 100 degrees in there. But the deal breaker for me was when one of the staff just opened our door at 10 pm without knocking, even though we had the Do Not Disturb on the door! Most of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and you can't beat the water there, but I'm afraid we won't be returning. Several of the promised amenities that we had paid for were not functioning and a staff member breached our room unannounced and management did nothing to "resolve the issue" besides offering to change our room and an apologize for the inconvenience.

The room i was in had a good view but the furniture was old and looked like it had bugs. Maintenance came to fix dresser and toilet. There was no phone in the room so i had to go to front desk for anything. Front desk handed out beach towels and everything else besides checking in people too on same line.

El Coz has one of the nicest beaches and has excellent snorkeling, as well as other activities. We've been going here for over 20 years and always thoroughly enjoy our stay. It is getting older and in need of a face-lift but the staff are like family and always take great care of us.

RUN ! No AC only the fan blowing but no cold air . Hot water was hit and miss . Turn on the faucet and nothing would come out . We played the game and had front desk send maintenance the first 2 days , the third day we insisted on a room change , we had hot water but also got ants crawling all over the bed and still no AC. Finally cut our losses and left. Went Next door to the Westin and EVERYTHING was absolutely wonderful. I even had to turn the AC up ! It was to cold in our room !!!

I like the old fashion Mexican style design of the Resort, & this place was perfect. Loved the private beach area & the beautiful sunsets. The rooms are nice & roomy but the mattress in room 1507 really needs to be replaced, felt like sleeping on a box spring.

Another memorable stay at El Cozumeleno, met some more kind and genuine staff, special thanks to Manuel, Julieta, German, Freddy, Carlos and Eiahyr for going out of their way to make this trip another special one, this place will forever hold a special place in my heart, it's so nice when the staff here treat you like family. When booking El Cozumeleno travelers should keep in mind this is an older property. Our room (1702) a/c never kept up and it was always warm in our room. The view, the snorkeling from the resort and the incredible staff made up for that one problem. This was our second visit and we would choose this location again.
