Had looked foreard to using, and booked a room with a fireplace. Was not working upon arrival. They quickly looked and found that the gas valve was stuck. They did compensate us and took another look at it the next day. The next day when we returned around 5pm we were informed that it would be fixed the next day. Bummer, as the temps outside were cold and there was snow on the ground so it would have been perfect. Lobby is nice. Very high ceilings and a giant fireplace and plenty of comfortable seating. The hallways and the rooms themselves are clean but a little tired. Probably could use a refresh. The lighting in our room was a little dim even with every light on. I like the soft lighting of the lamps, but the upper ceiling lights should scream with bright light. The option iof soft lighting from the lamps and stadium lighting would be ideal. Overall we had a pleasant time. But unless you like being alone I would hesitate to go the first couple weeks of November. We were there for two nights befire we saw anothwr guest. The property is pretty isolated and the grounds get very dark at night. But the sun comes out and you find yourself surrounded by the beauty of Spearfish Canyon.
