A very nice, interesting place, the Opera House was quite welcoming and offered a unique, tranquil experience. I plan on returning the next time I visit the area.
Room itself is spartan and worn. King bed comfy. But, the whole opera house thing is very interesting. Charming murals and artifacts in common area. No sign out front so it looks closed. Must look for hotel entrance well back from the road. Nearest restaurant 7 miles north. Food okay there. There are claims that the hotel is haunted. Not our experience.
Historic building, over 100 yrs old. Because of this, it is overpowering with musty smells. Pretty bad unfortunately. It was dingy. No tv's which i get, but no other entertainment either. 100.00 a night for a king. Bed was comfy, but bedding was slightly musty in our room. Unfortunately, not worth the money charged.

This is a truly unique property that is a historical part of the region. The hotel is 100 years old and is very basic and simple, but it's a fun trip back in time with great staff and really cool architecture. It's a great experience. I later read that I stayed in one of the most haunted rooms but I slept like a baby both nights. Also, great place to explore death valley from
The staff at the hotel were friendly and very accommodating. The Opera House tour is a must!!

Beautiful 100 year old building with a lot of charme and details. The plumbing is old too, so you have to wait some minutes, till you get hot water. The staff is great and you can book tour through the Amargosa opera house (9am and 6pm).
Literally the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Had I know I would have driven the 7 miles further to the LongStreet. Hallway smelled like sulfur (rotten eggs), sand and hair under the covers on the sheets, water smelled sour. Almost slept in my car.
This is a really terrible property. Granted it's an old building in remote area but I have stayed in hotels third world countries in remote areas with better facilities. Rooms are dilapidated. Towels are threadbare. There's a terrible odor in the lobby and rooms. We couldn't get out of here fast enough.
Step into the charm of a 100-year-old vintage hotel, renowned for its rich history and timeless allure. This iconic establishment is a must-visit for any traveler seeking to experience a piece of living history. While the rooms maintain their classic, aged aesthetic, they are meticulously kept, ensuring a clean and authentic stay.

not for the faint hearted - this is not a luxury stay but a truly unique one! make sure to pay for the tour of the opera house when you're there :)
I love that the Opera House exists, and only wish I could win the lottery and donate millions to bring it to its original condition.
My only complaint is for the other guests being noisy and easy to hear through the old plaster walls. I Wish guests realized how much voices carry in their rooms. I will continue to stay here - I love its charm!
Strong moldy smell everywhere. Couldn’t stay the night. Dilapidated. It’s old but conditions are unacceptable even for an old property. 15 minutes to get hot water for shower. Staff was nice and they refunded our money.

While the building has seen better days and the accommodations are minimal, this place is the most unique stay I've ever had and is bursting with exciting history, which the helpful staff will share on and off the tour.
I'd highly recommend staying here to help keep this place alive, but just be prepared for things to be a little rough around the edges.

Wanting to see stars? This is the place you want to be. Eating is 7 miles up the road. Great tea and coffee ready 7 a.m. It's an old motel with lots of character.
Really great opportunity to stay in a historic building and to learn about a beautiful life. As they state plainly on their website, staying here is a rustic experience--there are exposed pipes, no TV (although there is wifi), and parts of the hotel have a funny smell. But it is a 100+ year old building that has endured many punishing desert summers and cold winters. It is not the Ritz-Carlton--don't come here if that's what you're after. However, my fiancee and I felt enriched learning the story of Marta Beckett and having a tour of the old opera house. Her life is inspiring, as described in the 2000 movie "Amargosa". We intend to return and we would recommend the hotel to anyone adventurous enough to sacrifice a little on amenities in order to have a truly unique experience.
