Good location for visiting Death Valley. Accommodation is a bit outdated and could do with new/clean carpets etc. There was also rubbish left outside the stairwell when we arrived in the afternoon and still there the next morning which left an unpleasant smell. Dinner in the restaurant was expensive for what it was but you don’t have much choice around there. Same with the general store on site, would recommend bringing your snacks and drinks beforehand.

The room was old and needed to be updated. The toilet was lopsided. And the food was terrible at all the restaurants. Nice location.

This is my third visit to Furnace Creek Ranch. Over the span of years, the condition of the accommodations have deteriorated. The hallway of building 700 was worn and in need of improvement. The tub was clogged and the shower curtain was mildewed and stained. Gross! No apology given when I checked out. Very disappointing .

We loved staying at the ranch! It was such a cool experience being able to stay inside Death Valley, the pool was wonderful, plenty of options for being out in the middle of nowhere!

Great for seeing Death Valley
This hotel is centrally located. We got up early and went to Badwater Basin and drove the Artists' Drive. Then we came back to the hotel for breakfast. There are dining options, a gift shop and a convenience store.

Our room was definitely dated. That wouldn't be a problem since I expected that, but the pillows were terrible! Our room also had a wet patch on the carpet. I wouldn't have noticed until I was bare footed. Gave me an ick. Who knows what that dampness was from. The buffet was extremely expensive for what it was. The food was mediocre at best. I expected expensive, but expected it would be good. It wasn't. Apparently when you're limited where to stay they don't have to try very hard. We didn't use the pool or the golf course so I don't know about those.

On arrival in reception everything looked great. Cooling sprayers on and air con fully working (it was 48C/138F). We checked in the room-not only tired but dirty-bits of stuff on the carpet. Edges of carpet not clean at all. The corridor even worse. We tried to get the air con working without success. Phoned reception to be told “set it to 72F or the motor freezes”. We did this , still not working. Phoned reception back to ask for a different room. No quibbles , come to reception for key. Moved to new room-still grubby but air con working. Reception must know it doesn’t work in some rooms but still put guests in them-why??? It’s not a cheap hotel but clearly they feel they don’t need to try as only one other hotel around. On a positive-the pool area is lovely and it was great to swim in the dark at 9pm. Didn’t try the food as we’d read the poor reviews beforehand. This hotel needs a serious overhaul.

They know what your choices are
The Ranch is basically a complex of multi-unit buildings. The layout was a little odd to me. Upon arrival and after check-in at 4:30 pm the first floor of our multi-unit building was completely covered in trash from one end of the hall to the other. I guess they were still cleaning the rooms and drag it all out into the hall. It looked terrible and smelled the same. Ceiling fans were covered in dust. Bathroom caulking was coming loose and looked bad. The bathroom floor was filthy also. The entrance door to the complex was filthy and broken. Air conditioner would not cool to setpoint. It struggled to maintain 75-80 degrees. It is hot here, but the HVAC unit was old and wore out. Bed mattresses were cheap and not comfortable. Staff was friendly. Stay and surrounding areas were quiet. Area felt safe. All the shops, stores, and restaurants at the Ranch are extremely expensive. The Ranch overall is acceptable due to location. They seriously need to clean, modernize, and maintain the rooms. I stayed here due to location. They know they can get by with more than other accommodations. The other local hotel (The Oasis) was over double in price. Stay here if you need to. It will work. It is not terrible. It was super nice not having to drive back out of the park at night. I would stay here again for the exact same reason.
Ceiling fan was dusty. We didn't use it.
Caulk was coming loose and parts of it would fall in the tub.

Not worth it
Overpriced motel with fancy atmosphere to make it seem worth the money.. on top of it I paid $300 just to have to eat microwaved food in my room (which had to be heated at the general store since we don’t have an in room one) because the “restaurant” basically turned us away at 8pm because they had enough people waiting, even tho it was a Tuesday night and there didn’t seem to be that many people.. you’re telling me you can’t provide food service for those guests staying in your hotel when we have no other places to go in the area? On top of it I just noticed an additional charge on my card that I was NEVER told I would receive, and the lady I spoke with was incredibly rude when I inquired about this charge.

I’m writing this review in order of our stay. Beautiful setting and a fantastic drive up to reception. Lovely reception staff. Very nice and happy. Room on first glance was nice. However after getting to bed late at night due to watching the beautiful night sky I found blood on the duvet. Too late to sort. Evening meal was nice but overly expensive. It’s a captive audience so can charge what they like. Staff were miserable. They seemed surprised to have customers and were rude. Fantastic swimming pool and nice small museum. Staff in the shop were lovely. Breakfast was just inedible except the bacon. $21 per person for just bacon is not acceptable. It was buffet style so tried what we could. All inedible. They even had left over mac and cheese on the buffet counter. Save your money and drive an hour down the road to Denny’s. At check out I complained about the issues and the nice receptionist said she’d pass the information on to management and that they’d make contact with me. I waited a while to hear but didn’t so emailed using the details she gave me. Again heard nothing so wrote on the contact form on the website. Yet again heard nothing so been left to make this review. Due to the remote location I’m guessing they think they don’t need to try. Save your money!
