Very Good

Lovely place, but very expensive. Also slightly awkward getting to your lodge on arrival and departure if you can’t walk far and have lots of luggage - they have golf buggies, but just a hassle to always arrange to be picked up. Plus, a rude welcome as I dared to drop off an infirm travel companion and take luggage out of the car outside the reception. Was told sternly to not do that, park in the lot, then walk to reception.
Check-in was a nightmare, as the front desk could not program our key cards correctly. It took three tries - all the more frustrating because our room was a quarter mile away (this is a big lodge with numerous buildings). So we had to trek back and forth three times.
When we finally got into our room with the help of maintenance, someone else's luggage was in our room. Nobody could explain that.
Once we finally got settled, we enjoyed our stay. The lodge has three restaurants and several shops. You can walk to a few trails without taking the shuttle to Denali. But the shuttle is available out front. Rooms are pretty basic. The lodge is owned by Princess Cruise Lines so it's geared towards big groups. We arrived by train and tried to avoid the cruise people.
There is also a "village" across the highway that offers more shopping but not much in the way of dining. Basically, you have a cafe and a Subway. We ate at the lodge each day and were quite happy with the food options.
Despite the rough start, my wife and I agreed this was still an enjoyable stay and the best option in Denali for lodging. The lodge is closed during the winter months and had only been open for about a week when we arrived, which may account for the check-in debacle.

We arrived just after a coach, this resulted in a long queue for check in. I had booked two rooms on the same booking but at check in we were advised that the rooms were in separate buildings at opposite ends of the property and reception couldn’t (or wouldn’t) change this. The rooms are pretty basic but the amenities are fantastic. Great meal at Fanny o’s and a lively evening was spent by the fire pit chatting with people from all over the world.
The check-in staff were most unhelpful and unwelcoming. They assigned the wrong room, did not provide proper assistance and guidance and once we discovered what had happened they took ages to fix the problem and were most unapologetic about the inconvenience caused.
Large, well maintained property. Had difficulty finding one restaurant. An employee named Terrell had just finished his shift but still walked us to the location. Nice young man.
Wonderful location, very nice hotel with older style but clean rooms, beautiful lodge and property. Good restaurants onsite, great Saloon (Fanny Q's). Friendly staff, many just starting for the season. Princess and Holland America cruises stay there.
Great property, easy to get to on the road from Fairbanks. The restaurants have good and varied choices, the shops are creative. Our stay was good enough to extend a day. That being said, the rooms(building K) are not sound proofed and you do hear you neighbor and everyone walking by).
