The hotel is a good option close to the highway for a few nights. Being an older property the rooms are spacious which is a big plus. Location is quite good as well with most of Detroit attractions a quick drive away and some decent shopping in the neighborhood as well. Breakfast was well above expectations and the young lady who manages breakfast is a beacon for customer service. She was amazing all three days that we stayed.
The customer service at the front desk however was a completely different story. Check in was cold and unwelcoming. They make access to the pool as inconvenient as possible. On check in I was rudely asked if we planned on using the pool during our stay. Its an amenity and I should have the freedom of using it if I want to. On Friday when we did want to use the pool the lady at the front desk seemed most irritated with us and very grudgingly asked me to fill out a form and then handed over wristbands which they are neurotic about. There was no one else at the pool but they almost seem to not want anyone to use it. At the pool another staff came to check if we had the wristbands even though there was no one else at the pool and then told me that my child could not be around between 3 pm and 10 pm.
Lastly the hotel also seems to be falling apart. It is old and it shows. A bathroom door that you have to slam shut because its warped and a armchair that was filthy. The room door looked liked someone had to try to smash their way in.
