DO NOT STAY HERE! When I arrived at 8:30 a.m. after my flight to check in for a reservation I made three months earlier, I was told the hotel did not have a room for me because people were not leaving their room at their scheduled checkout date. (How they would have known that 3.5 hours before checkout time made no sense, and clearly they had oversold the hotel as it was a UMich football weekend. They probably sold more rooms at a higher rate when they realized they could.) So the hotel offered to (1) put me up in another hotel that they said was very nice, (2) refund me for the price I paid through Expedia, and (3) give me 15,000 Bonvoy points.
The Marriott followed through on none of those commitments. First, the hotel they moved me to, the Skyline, was a dump. It was dirty, had a bad smell, and many issues (e.g., half the exercise equipment was broken, the power and Internet randomly went off twice, and the staff was very rude).
Second, they refused to follow through with their promise to refund me. After the boss of the person who made me that offer got wind, he rudely pushed back and said he would need to get back to me. He never did. It was only after I spent over a half hour chatting with a helpful Expedia rep who dealt directly with the hotel that I got my refund.
And the 15,000 Bonvoy points (which, let’s be realistic, maybe will cover 1/10 of a night’s stay at a decent hotel) still have not arrived in my account.
