Property in grave need of a good clean and maintenance both inside and out. Pervasive smell of greasy food inside hotel. Breakfast was poor quality. Outside lodge rooms like garden sheds, dark access unmade paths weeds. etc. Door to electric cupboard hanging off hinges. To be fair interior of lodge room was clean, but cramped. Bathroom was 1.5m square. No toilet brush provided.

Short break in Dunkeld

Hotel in lovely location on Dunkeld Main Street. Helpful and friendly staff. Nice room. However the place needs some TLC with worn / uneven carpets, windows and cupboards in communal areas needing repair. Dunkeld is a very nice place. Plenty of lovely cafes and restaurants nearby and lovely walking both along the river from the town and further afield to Loch of the Lowes and The Hermitage (NTS).

Given wrong room number at check in which was already occupied. Dirty room, coridors poorly lit, mould on ceiling, staff inattentive to needs, creaky floors, only stayed one night out of desperation. Avoid at all costs.

From start to finish this hotel was a problem, from going into the "Annex" and looking at a lodge that can only be described as a "servant room" the over powering smell of mold, damaged curtains and pillows that are cushions for a sofa, I had to ask to be moved room because this was an expensive stay, the porter agreed and moved me to the "queen suite" which is inside the hotel and is a tiny little room with two single beds, porter made a remark to me and my mother about pushing the single beds together which was very inappropriate and given the opportunity, I would have demanded to cancel and refund my stay if I wasn't staying for an important occasion. As for the "Queen suite", this is a standard room by any other definition in hotels, it was small, uncomfortable and one pillow on two single beds, the other pillows being the same as the "annex", cushions for a sofa.

Simply the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in!

I am always reticent to give a bad review but could not justify that this time. Condition, service and overall experience - not good! No towels in the room to start with, cupboard handles hanging off, equipment not working and no cleaning etc. service for the next night. Doesn’t live up to its ‘Royal’ name.

Nice and central

Booked the annexe, on arriving looked pretty grim, but inside was clean and welcoming, we got upgraded to the main hotel due to an error on room allocation. The staff were all friendly, pleasant and the hotel was clean. It is in need of some upgrading, improvments, but for the price we paid it was worth it. The restaurant was clean, space between tables, the food was okay, we only ate in one night. We enjoyed a game of pool. Overall we would go back, nice and central.

The hotel could do with a bit of an update. The shower tray was not great with a fixed head that only wanted to clean the wall opposite. The bed was squeaky and the lighting was a bit brutal. The location is excellent though.

The Royal Dunkeld Hotel wins hands down for the helpfulness and kindness of its staff. There are choices in stunning Dunkeld but the service here has been outstanding. I have been upgraded, offered a function room for a meeting, and have extended my stay here because of it.

I had a lovely time here. The room was clean, and for a Saturday evening it was quiet . It is an older building but I love the charm. I also love the coffee and tea in room amenities. The front desk reception was easy and very kind service. Would recommend this place.

Avoid at all cost

On check in we found the ladies bathroom to be out of order indicating plumbing issues and the gents toilet had no working light, the staff would have known at this point that there were issues with the plumbing system and with running water but failed to advise us of this. Our first impression of the hotel was that we were unable to see out the filthy windows and the carpets on the stairs were threadbare and in need of replacement. On entering the room later that evening the strong smell was disgusting and the bathroom did not look as though it had been serviced. The shower was dirty and under the sink the door was hanging off indicating again problems with plumbing in the hotel. In the morning we went to shower and our suspicion of a plumbing issue became real, no hot water which is totally unacceptable, more alarming the hotel reception played this complaint down as if it was just the norm. I asked to speak with manager at reception and was advised it was the managers last day and there would be a new manager tomorrow. I felt secure in the knowledge I would be issued a full refund with having booked through Hotels.com however without the want of trying I have been advised that “as subject to the rules and restrictions of the vendor they do not have the authority to change or override their policies” I feel totally let down by Hotels.com as no refund will be given, over the years I have always used this company over any other.

Stayed here for one night and would not return again. The public areas and bar were dirty with threadbare carpet on the stairs. The electric cables from tv and sound system in bar was a complete mess. All twisted and plugged into adapter on floor. Our room wasn’t the best and the cushions on the bed were soiled and dirty. We couldn’t find the light switch for the bathroom but figured out it was behind the wall mounted tv!!! Didn’t use the shower as it didn’t look appealing. We had a look in the function room and it looked like the people had just gone as the tables were littered with glasses and half finished drinks from a function five days earlier. We left without having breakfast and safe to say we won’t be returning
