Great location for exploring Durham. Lovely pub - evening meal excellent. Full English breakfast was very small (1 spoon of beans, 1 sausage etc - and ask in advance for your bacon not to be overcooked, as my one small piece was like shoe leather). Staff friendly but sticklers for the after 3 pm only rule for signing in. Despite those minor quibbles it's a great stay. Comfy beds, clean rooms and within walking distance for everything.

I loved the decor - quite traditional and full of character which I prefer to a more corporate style Some people might find it a little shabby, but very comfortable nonetheless, although a few minor maintenance issues like squeaky doors and wardrobe doors and missing curtain hooks, for example, could be easily resolved. Breakfast was really good and all the staff were unfailingly helpful and pleasant. Great location and great value for money.

The only minor criticism I have is that breakfast wasn't served until 7.30am which I think is quite late. Also you have to order breakfast from the bar rather than table service. Otherwise, nice hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

The property was okay. Walls are thin, I could hear the snoring from the room next door. My main issue was the price, we were charged £220 for night in a double room. I have no idea why it was so much because the usual rate for the room is much lower.
