Unfortunately hotel undergoing renovations which impacted on stay - tiny reception area, no lounge to sit and wait for taxis, only one small lift working. BUT staff were wonderful (both reception and in Brasserie) and rooms excellent.

The hotel is on a major transportation hub in Edinburgh. Sometimes it difficult to maneuver the street because of the amount of people and buses. The hotel is clean and the amenities are excellent. The staff was helpful and went out of their way to help.

It's in quite a good location. The rooms were quiet despite being near a bus stop/main road. The rooms are exactly what you see when you book. Very comfortable beds, nice clean rooms and decent bathrooms with gorgeous bath. Heavenly. I haven't given all 5 stars as they are currently having work done and the entrance was temporary and moved during our stay. We had an evening meal in the brasserie which was excellent. Our free VIP glass of wine was fine. The bar area is really open and calm. In the evening softly lit, was great to chill there after a long day.

Hotel is situated on the border between old town and new town. Easy access to all the sites you want to see but also the nicer restaurants in new town. Also, the hop on - hop off busses are right in front of the hotel. Room cleanliness (maid work) can be sketchy (we had to ask for a clean quilt). Very easy access to the train station.

The hotel was fine, good location, and we enjoyed the bar. However, check in was dreadful. We traveled from the Northwest US to Edinburgh, arrived at hotel approximately 12:00 noon, knowing we were early for check in but wanted to drop bags which they accommodated. They requested we come back at 2:00 which we did. Our room wasn’t ready, but wait ten minutes. After multiple “your room is almost ready” we finally received room keys about 3:30. I stood in the lobby and watched other guests arrive with bags and get their rooms which was frustrating. One desk clerk was friendly and sympathetic and other encounters with desk personnel were fine. We were two weary travelers (one with mild dementia) and are left with a negative experience at this hotel.

I liked that the hotel was close to the hop-on hop-off city bus tour, and easily walkable to Scott Monument, Calton Hill, Edinburgh Waverley Station, St James Quarter, with lots of shopping & eating options. Bus transit was easy to get to the Castle and other areas, if you had some mobility problems as I had. I didn't get to the pool in time, but enjoyed a long hot bath in a beautiful soaker tub at the end of a long day of sight-seeing! Supper at the hotel was also fantastic, the pork chop & banana tart tatin were superb!

The staff at this property definitely go above and beyond and make this a 5 star property on service alone! Location is right over the street from where the hop on hop off bus tours depart and its just 5 minutes walk from Waverly station as well. So many restaurants and cafes close by and in 1 minute youbare at the foot of Calton hill. The breakfast here was also very good and reasonably priced if not included in your stay. Have to say again how amazed i was withe the service of the front desk staff.....they literally handle any question of request you may have personally and immediately.
