Long walk to the hotel

Waited for reception to open then signed in and got my key walked for 7 minutes and found someone else was in the room went bank to reception got another room and opened the door to get a full smell of beech

Our room was like a maze to find. They told us we were on the second floor but we had to go across the first floor and then up a random set of stairs to find our secluded floor. The signage wasn’t much help to find it. Our room smelt very strongly of men’s deodorant which was a bit off putting.

Arrived after a long drive, and on check-in, was not told what time breakfast was served. Went down the next morning to find it had finished. Staff couldn’t refund because Hotels.com hadn’t sent the funds yet. Contacted Hotels.com to be told “can’t refund the breakfast as it was free”. I paid for a room, and selected breakfast as an option at £24, but according to Hotels.com, that means instead of a room costing £42, I selected a room for £66, that included a free breakfast. This WAS NOT the case. I paid an extra, optional charge of £24 for one breakfast (not exactly cheap!), but Hotels,com re-word it to make it look like I’ve selected a different room with free breakfast (oddly enough, the exact same room as one without). Wasn’t told about breakfast times on arrival (and in all fairness, I forgot to ask). Room was freezing cold even with the pathetic little electric heater on full (barely gave out any heat at all). After spending some time speaking with the staff about the breakfast issue, returned to my room to quickly change and get my bags, to get a knock on the door at 10:04 and greeted with the words “check out is 10am. That is now”. Rude? Appalling. Gave no appreciation that I’d spent 20 minutes at reception waiting for staff to try and find out what had happened about breakfast….. Definitely won’t return. Won’t be using Hotels.com again.

Hotel was ok but a bit dated. Got a room which was spacious but the TV signal was poor so there were delays on all channels. Had complimentry coffee and tea but there was no teaspoon. Room could have done with better heating.

Our room itself was clean and warm bathroom was dated but clean, the lack of power outlets was very disappointing, there have obviously been more but these were all blanked off, the hotel its self was clean and warm but just a bit tired and run down, the staff were good and efficient, breakfast was good but the coffee machine broke down so that was disappointing, outside the hotel was to be honest a shambles skips and rubbish laying about and cigarette ends not been tidied up for what looked like a long time, on the morning of our departure we used the toilets in the reception area and they were disgusting, urine over the floor of one cubicle and excrement on the seat of another and only a small amount of toilet paper in one cubicle and none in the other two. In summary our stay had some positives but unfortunately the negatives outweighed them which is such a shame as it could be a very nice hotel and be an enjoyable place to spend a few nights at, but unfortunately I don’t think we will be back.

My daughter and I stayed one night here. Very easy to get to with onsite parking for only £7.50 for 24 hours. We left the car and a 10’minute walk took us into the centre of Edinburgh. Very quick check in process with great staff. We had a large room on the ground floor overlooking the river. Superb facilities. Free WiFi and tea and coffee (with shortbread). The room had a hairdryer, ironing board and iron. Plenty of storage too. The only negative (very minor) was the light from the wine fridge during the night. Can’t comment on the food as we didn’t eat here. Would definitely go back again!

This is a nice hotel near the city centre but set in a very scenic area next to the Water of Leith and the Modern Art Gallery. The hotel is very outdated. Firstly, even though I booked a standard room I was given one of the windowless rooms which is one level down from what I paid for. The room was very smelly as there's no ventilation to it. There was a green glow all night from the fire exit sign. You are given your soap, shower gel etc in plastic cups with the soap right at the bottom that you can easily miss. It was nice to have complimentary shortbread biscuits though with free tea and coffee in the room. There hasn't been a lot done to the hotel as by the internal signage you can tell it was once a Travelodge.

Breakfast had so many items not on, no bread, no tomatoes, no mushrooms, no ham,no yoghurt, no hot water, no cups. tables werent cleaned and nobody around to help with our questions regarding our requests. this side of the hotel really let it down.
