It was okay, quite dated & the lower ground has a funny cheesy smell to it, I guess that is because there is no windows for ventilation. It was a fair price for 1 night split between 2 people, but the room was a bit dated.
No internet and the breakfast was horrendous. Staff knew how torun the coffee machine but were indifferent to client's request to make it work in a timely manner. Also, no internet!!!!
i had a lovely comfortable two night stay at this hotel. beautiful surroundings . clean rooms bedding and pillows good plus extra pillows. beautiful view from room i would definitely be staying at this hotel again. i’d recommend it ..cindy
On arrival the reception area looked welcoming as were the staff, unfortunately that was as good as it got. Upon entering the room the smell of urine from the bathroom was overwhelming, the room itself wasn’t at all what I expected for the money paid, dirty mirrors, headboard and side units all needed cleaned. Black mould around handrail in bathroom. So first 30 mins of our stay was spent wiping everything down. The mould was easily removed with toilet wipes. Couldn’t comment on food as after seeing the room I didn’t want to eat there. In need of serious updating inside and out.
The Brittania is in easy walking distance for the city centre and shopping, we walked it in 10 minutes. Hotel and facilities are clean and staff are always on reception for any queries. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the bed was amazing, had a great night's sleep. Have been to this hotel before and they kindly gave us the same room on our request, I recommend The Brittania at every visit to Edinburgh
Arrived and was ignored by staff as they were too busy to book us in. Once in room there was no hot water and window was obscured by dirty laundry trolleys, so no view. Woken up very early the next morning with beeping of the wagon reversing to collect laundry and then moving all the trolleys. More trolleys present that evening, asked reception if the same collection time was to occur they could not answer and weren't very sympathetic as just stated it's a main road. That evening heard loud voices outside window, staff having smoke break bad mouthing their supervisors.

Stayed here whilst visiting the Christmas market as a girls weekend away. Triple room was spacious enough however sleeping by the window was drafty especially in winter. The curtain actually was moving out of the window even with the blind down too.
The bathroom sink was extremely slow at emptying.
No phone in the room so had to go down to reception for additional items such as toilet roll, tea/ milk etc.
Entrance to the hotel is down a fairly steep hill and parking was £7.50 a day.
Not too far from tram (felt further in the pouring rain)
Overall not a bad stay for a budget hotel if using just as a base.
