I've stayed here multiple times now. It's an older hotel, but it's clean, the staff is super friendly, and the views of the Scott memorial, the gardens and Old Town are amazing. And it's just a short walk to anything you'd want to see. Next time in Edinburgh, I'll be staying here again.
Great location with an easy walk to the station and Old Town. Breakfast was reasonably priced and delicious. The room was spacious and comfortable. I would definitely stay again.
We stayed in a room facing an alleyway. Drinks singing late at night with the sound bouncing up to our room in the echo chamber of the alleyway. Floor in our room had soft spots so you felt the floor would give way. Room to hot but could not open the window for the noise. Delivery trucks early in the morning using the alleyway for more noise. Construction on building next door for more noise. Don’t forget the 27 steps up to the tiny lift.
Building only three years newer than Canada (1867)
Broke our carry on suitcase while shifting to a slightly less noisy room on the 6th floor but still in the alley. Would not recommend this overpriced hotel to anyone.
We received an upgrade to a corner unit which had a nice view of the Castle, but the street noise was very noticeable.
We had a major water leak through the ceiling in the bathroom. Management was apologetic, but little else. Couldn’t move use to another room which made it a bit of a challenge to get ready in the morning. Management made no effort to check with us after it was fixed to see if we were satisfied.
Lovely staff in all areas. Very helpful when we needed anything. The hotel is very conveniently located near to trains, trams and shops. Everything was clean and well presented. The only real downside was there were lots of stars to get to the hotel.
All staff members encountered were helpful and friendly. They work very hard and we noticed. The hotel is a great location to be able to walk to Royal Mile and down Princes Street. When everything closes early than expected in Edinburgh being able to hang out in the lounge area was great. At first glance, there are some run-down shops nearby, but I felt safe and it was easy to get to two different tram stops without worry.
