the first impression of the resort was visually beautiful lush plants and impressive build. However, the check-in experience was disappointing. My friend and I were both celebrating our birthdays and requested birthday dinners for each of us. We were told only one birthday dinner is allowed per room, which felt unreasonable — especially since the “celebration” consisted of a few balloons, a dessert, and a short song. Nothing extravagant. The staff member who checked us in was not very informative. No physical map of the resort was provided, and we were told all information was available in the app — which unfortunately was not accurate. We upgraded from a jungle-view room (essentially a mountain view) to an ocean view for an additional $10. The bellman who escorted us was much more helpful. The rooms were clean. However, the hallways and common areas are completely white and feel cold and sterile, almost like a hospital — lacking warmth or decoration. Basic amenities such as toothbrushes and toothpaste are not provided. There was no shower gel initially; Coffee was not refilled after use. At one point, an alarm went off throughout the entire resort with no communication or explanation. Reaching the front desk by phone is difficult. There is no room service at all. Let me start out by saying that the staff was wonderful, the grounds were great and the big buffet was very good! The problem is with the “specialty” restaurants. They do not take reservations and open at 6pm for dinner. If you are not in line by 5:30, you have at least 1-2 hr wait. Not 1 out of 7 people thought the steak restaurant was any good. The food in these restaurants are sub par.

Came back from an excursion late went directly our room and the bedding were off our beds. Seem to us that the cleaning crew came in started cleaning but just left and didn’t come back. Call front desk and with 15 mins had a lady come and bring bedding sheets and she cleaned our room. First time this has happened to us! Other than that resort was well kept and everyone very nice and helpful!

The room was very clean and the ac was so cold at night! From check-in to bartenders to check out, I can literally say Costa Rica has amazing people working at their hotels. The drinks and the atmosphere was so welcoming. I traveled alone to this hotel for 5 days and definitely feel it wasn’t enough.

Dirty laundry bags upon request, better food, more local food dishes, pool bar open to at least 8:00pm, also some control of the people at the beach. The excursion people are not as bad as the people trying to sell items and or massages. Those people bugged the life out of you and make you not even want to go to the beach the Riu in Montego Bay. Jamaica controls their sellers by keeping them in the water. They are not allowed on the same part of the beach, maybe implicate that because it is harder for them to bug the people on vacation from the water versus walking all on the sand everywhere again I think the people on the beach offering excursions is a huge plus also helps out small local companies and the local economy, but being asked 50 times a day to buy a bracelet, whistle, Massage is a little crazy loved the overall cleanliness and friendliness of all staff. Also more adult related shows at the Riu Guanacaste!

When we first checked in the first room that they gave us was not spotless at all. I asked for an upgrade and then when we got that it was spotless and no complaints. Overall, we had a good time. The wait time for restaurants. It’s a little bit ridiculous for me, but the buffet had delicious food morning, lunch and dinner.
