The room was like something out of a 1950s hotel except for the updated TV. Grounds were wonderful and Ice Museum Experience was interesting but seemed like being charged for everything even when staying. Picked an option that had indoor plumbing when most options seemed like it was an outhouse only. Pool Staff was wonderful while hotel and activities staff was just good. Would have been nice that while there was virtually nobody staying we could have had a room with a view instead of a view of the roof. Seems like some things could have been marked better - like distance of trails, clearly which way to Beaver Dam, giving indications as to how to do on site activities without finding out the hard way that the Activities Location that also had groceries and souveniers was about the place to start your visit.

I gave it 4’s because it’s a little rustic. A lot of cool things to do and see. Worthwhile to stop in for a couple of days if you are in the area.

The only restaurant is at the resort. If you don't get seating early for dinner you will have to wait for a while. The host was not very freindly.

Not so bed

One thing i like about this resort is they have good choices of food and good service. Rooms are very small and noisy, hot spring pool was bit too hot but comfortable. Service at hot pool was poor. For first time user of this pool make sure you put all your belongings in to the locker before you close it this they will not explain it to you. Ice museum is good to experience.

We loved our week at Chena Hot Springs. The Northern lights put on a fabulous display. The hot springs and the pool were wonderful. The food at the restaurant was delicious. We were treated well by the staff. A quick dog sled ride was fun. Highly recommend this adventure in the remote resort.

Hot Springs

Not ADA friendly. Poor WiFi, TV service. The hot springs was why we went. Probably will not stay in the resort again. One time experience. Not worth the money spent. The restaurant price are way high.

Wonderful experience

Amazing property and tours. Food was great. Utilization of geothermal energy and self-sufficiency is impressive. Staff was friendly and helpful for the most part- some much more than others. It could be a 5-star experience if ran a little more efficiently and if staffed/managed a little better. For example, there is no ability to get a drink from the bar without waiting, sometimes at great length, to be seated in the restaurant. There were many varieties of shirts offered for sale, but almost all were size small. Communication and organization is sometimes lacking regarding the tours. Some parts of the lodge got very hot. It seems like it is difficult to regulate the temperature. I had a great time there and am certainly glad I stayed. I would recommend to anyone and encourage to make full use of all the activities and tours. But not everyone should drive there as the roads can be hazardous, depending on the weather.

This was a great escape with loads of outdoor activities. However, there weren't enough food/dining options to keep up with demand. Best to dine at nonpeak hours if you want to eat in the restaurant. The staff really work hard so kudos to them.

Aurora Great, Resort Good Not Great

We stayed 5 nights to catch the Aurora Borealis, it did not disappoint. This is a remote location an hour and a half NE of Fairbanks. There’s nothing else out here except for the resort so you are a captive audience to their offerings. The food in the restaurant is decent, could be better. Wait times are long for peak hours. Ordering to go is a good option. There’s a bar in the restaurant. Bring your own bottled water because the well water tastes terrible, and for some reason the restaurant does not sell it. There’s a lot to do here including some free activities. The hot springs, pool and hot tubs are free, hiking is great, geothermal energy and greenhouse tours are free and aurora viewing is free. Lots of games available in the activity center. Several paid tours available depending on time of year. Check out their website for list. Highly recommend the Aurora Viewing Tour if you’re here during a time when it’s going to be out. We had a fantastic light show! The tour takes you up the side of a mountain in a snow machine. It is rough on the back so you may want to pass if you have back problems. My husband did okay, but was sore for a few days after. It’s 5 hours altogether and there’s yurts for hot beverages and getting warm. Heated out houses available too. BRING A TRIPOD FOR YOUR PHONE OR CAMERA for the best pictures of the Aurora. We forgot ours. Pictures are still good, not great. No cell service here, Wi-Fi is slow and only available in some areas.
