Grand Hotel Excelsior is beautiful, elegant hotel not far (5 min walk) from Valletta's City Gate entrance by the Triton Fountain. The location by the water of the bay offers amazing views by day or night. The extra attention by all of the staff was very appreciated as it wasn't overpowering but discreet and gracious. Breakfast is just perfect. Everything is there but I would recommend trying some of the island specialities like Pastizzi and their typical cheese. All in all we had a very comfortable and relaxing staying, feeling that this experience has definitely exceeded our expectations.

Very good but needs some work to update facilities

Some elements of the stay were excellent the service use of transport and the aspect of the horel. The rooms are specious but dated and the lighting is poor in the corridors and bedrooms. Food was Ok but we did not eat in the restaurant as the themed buffet, though extensive was expensive and too much. It was not well frequented so they need to rethink. Breakfast coffe was undrinkable and tea was not as good as the offering in the bedroom. The entrertainment would be improved by lighting the artist. They were in the dark and hardly visible. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent day trip of with Mario the driver to Medina and the Tarxien temples

Disgusted with the standards overall

Supposed to be a 5star hotel the tired decor,furnishings and appalling bathroom complete with black mould in the shower and a shower door that couldn't fully open without hitting the basin and a tap that nearly revolved! Bath towels the size of our hand towels. Awful buffet meals no fresh cooked food. Avoid this if you're expecting British and international 5 star standards

We stayed here during the Summer of 2024 for a week. We opted for breakfast included during our stay and the large variety of options available was really good. Our twin room was spacious and clean and the pool area was really nice too. The hotel is walking distance to Valletta city centre, so was very convenient for us to get around. The bar on the ground floor made really nice cocktails and had various musical entertainment in the evening which was nice. Most of the staff were friendly and approachable. Our main criticism was the pool bar was very busy so it was not run as efficiently as the indoor restaurants and orders got lost or took ages to arrive. The outdoor eating area for the pool bar also had dirty plates of food that hadn’t been cleaned away which attracted pigeons. Nevertheless, this was not entirely off putting so I would stay here again.

A wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel Excelsior

We have been several times to this hotel and, as always, we were not disappointed. The staff is as courteous as always, the room is large, airy, and super clean, and the breakfast really good....in short, it was a perfect stay which made our Christmas even better.

This hotel was fine. It’s not five star (whatever they say) and it’s in need of a refurb (lots of scratches on the furniture, missing tiles in the pool, etc), but it did the job. I did find the service slow (my order at the bar was forgotten twice), and the wine I got as a VIP upgrade was undrinkable. They also replaced my towels every day despite my hanging them up - what a waste! Still, it was well-located and did the job.

Nice hotel but a bit dated. The pool needed to be cleaned. The staff were all excellent and very friendly. Easy walk into town and the food was good.
