The location was the best thing about this hotel but I would never stay here again. The rooms were unbearably hot so that explained why all the windows were open when we arrived, the beds were so uncomfortable, creaky thin mattresses and it just smelt bad in general. I wasn’t expecting amazing rooms but temperature control and decent beds should just be standard for hotels.
We stayed for two nights during peak summer season. For the price paid (could easily get a 4 star room in London) I would say the service was sub-standard. Arriving at 2:30pm we were told to wait until around 3:15pm (check-in was agreed as 3pm in contract of service). Room looked like it was not updated since the 80s, dirty and unkempt. Bed creaks and hostel-looking. Third world basic amenities. Bathroom had damp/air vent and issues. When you took a shower it would leak out. Had to ask twice to give us shampoo, in the end I went to reception to ask for it. You can't access the lakes outside unless you walk to footpath and even then it's not a nice walk. Location is far from city centre - need a car or taxi to move around. Take my advice, stay in the city centre if you are coming to climb Ben Nevis.

Stopover going home from holiday
The room and the bathroom was clean, but the room looked tired and in general could do with a few refurbs e.g. the handle and lock on the bathroom door, room 307.
Staff were courteous and helpful. food was also good considering the number of guests on a bus tour.

Stayed one night August 29th. Older building which requires some TLC. Room had 1 electic outlet which tripped fuse with first plug in. Staff knew exactly how to resolve quickly. Room was clean but smelt damp and dusty. Beds are thin and not overly comfortable. Bar dinner was good and had plenty of options. Views of loch and mountains are picture perfect. For a 1 night visit, doable but would look elsewhere for longer stay.
Overall stay was excellent. We would go and stay again. But our experience with one of the staff was very bad. I did not have breakfast option so bought one breakfast for my mother in law. I was accused of eating without paying without even confirming with me. I was not asked politely, but the breakfast supervisor stood over my head and said that I ate without paying as one of her staff member saw me eating breakfast. Which was, of course, rubbish. I confronted them and they apologized. But despite that, I would still go and stay there. The desk staff was very very polite and accommodating. Loved them.
Lovely helpful staff. Dinner was a bit average. Noisy from road noise on occasion during the night but compensated by a lovely view of the loch in the morning

Building a little tired on the outside but unlike its sister hotel in Oban (where we stayed the night before) our room was modern and clean and everything worked! Great location, short drive from town. Good breakfast buffet style. Staff on reception very helpful staff in restaurant a bit unsmiling but I think just very busy! Would stay again. Beautiful views over loch from dining area.
