Cheap two star hotel. Don’t expect any frills because there aren’t any but it is warm, very convenient and clean. Our room- 1 had been recently decorated very pleasantly. Room was small but fine for one night.
We loved the Balzac Hotel! The location is in the center of the Old Town, the staff were extremely helpful, the breakfast was lovely, and the room was clean and comfortable.
I was 3 hours early , and check in was at 4 which I was very aware of. But what I didn't know that the hotel is closed til then. It was cold and raining, waited outside for an hour til I decide to call them. Not to check in but just to sit in their lobby. The lady/owner gave me an attitude saying check in at 4, I told her I can wait in the lobby as all I need is just to be indoors and warm. They really should state their closing hours. I could have gone elsewhere where it's open 24/7.

A great location with friendly helpful staff but room very small
Super location, a free car park close to the hotel, good breakfast, good restaurants around which are not open every day, ask at the hotel
Small, clean and a quiet room walking distance to Castle

Good positioning for access to town. Very basic rooms, bed not that comfy . Owners very helpful.
We were visiting Fougeres as the first stop on our tour of Brittany. It is a great town to visit, with lots to do. This hotel is right in the centre of the town, handy for all castle, the gardens, the medieval quarter and the market. There are lots of restaurants close by. It is a traditional hotel, modernised to a good standard. A nice big ensuite and a comfy bed. A good continental breakfast (madeleine, croissant, very fine bread and home made jam, which was a treat. The owners are a very nice and helpful couple.

Well located
Excellent location but in need of a bit of a spruce up. Staff may want to be careful as visitors can often understand a lot more French than they can speak!

Smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. You cannot park anywhere near this hotel. Breakfast is not included.

No frills hotel in beautiful town
Right in the heart of town, free parking nearby. Hotel is a bit tired, but had comfortable beds. Toiletries and toilet paper in dispensers. We ran out of toilet paper on the first evening. Reception and the front door closes at 20.30. Don’t forget to take your access code for entry after this!
Beautiful location, plenty of great food options nearby and a short walk to a lovely park overlooking lower part of the city. Easy walk to the Chateau. Agree with previous reviews about the free city parking...can be found near intersection of Rue Gaston Cordier and Place de la Grande Douve. I highly recommend Fougeres...a little off most tourists' path which makes it all the better.
A one night stay enroute from Chinon to Mont St-Michel. Clean and comfortable, close to the old castle. Parking is tough except on Sunday. We arrived at 13:00 and hotel was closed for lunch but no problem, we just went for lunch too and checked in later. We slept with window open, no A/C, and heard the church bells chime every 15 minutes - not for light sleepers.
