The hotel is located within the Iguacu Falls National Park, which allows us the freedom to visit the falls more than once and when the weather was more favourable (it had been raining non stop for the past 3 days). As taxis a and private hire cars are unable to enter the park, the hotel provides a shuttle service to ferry their guests from the National Park entrance to the hotel (11km distance, 20-minute journey).
The hotel staff was wonderful, from reception staff to housekeeping to the wait staff in the bar and restaurant. We did the cachaça experience and learnt a lot about the iconic brazilian liquor.
The hotel room was perfect. We got upgraded to a deluxe room with garden view. The room was clean, beautiful and spacious, befitting of a colonial-style hotel. The reception staff was very accommodating to our early arrival and got us a room promptly. Thank you very much!
Taking full advantage as hotel guests, we walked the falls trail twice, once in the afternoon (cloudy sky) and once more the following morning (clear blue sky). Our only regret was that the full moon tour was cancelled, despite the sky having cleared up. In the end, we could only admire the falls and the moon rainbow at the viewpoint right outside the hotel; the trail was closed and we were not allowed to access it without a guide. Would've been wonderful to have been able to see the moon rainbow at Salto San Maria!
