We had a mostly lovely stay at the Carlton George! The location is absolutely perfect - about 50 metres (or less) from Buchanan Street subway, a 10 minute walk to Buchanan Street Bus Station, and right in the heart of the city. We didn’t get the chance to try the restaurant at the top, but it looked popular. Reception was very friendly and helpful, The complimentary bar was brilliant, and the room spacious and comfortable (although a bit dated). The downsides were the following: there was hair on the bathroom tiles and in the shower from the previous guests and the flush on the toilet is terrible, even flushing a small amount of toilet paper can sometimes require 2-3 flushes. Additionally, and most importantly, it seems like wall tiles have been used as floor tiles for the bathroom - this, in effect, makes them very, very slippery, even without water being on them. Both myself and my friend slipped over in the bathroom whilst the floor was dry, because the tiles had no grip to them like standard floor tiles. I strongly recommend that the tiles in the bathrooms be replaced with tiles that are approved for bathroom floor use, as it is currently quite dangerous.

The location of this hotel was the main appeal for me. Dinner was okay, although the menu was a lot more limited that the details in the room suggested. Breakfast was better. The rooms are a little dated but comfortable enough and the complementary mini bar is a nice edition.

Location is the main attribute for this hotel. It was a bit “tired” and in need of an upgrade to facilities. However it was clean and well serviced. Staff where very helpful and pleasant

The chap working on reception on our arrival was very helpful. He was also there when we checked out and even though he’d worked late the day prior, he was very helpful again in showing us on a map where we wanted to go and offered to store our luggage. He was very courteous

Fab hotel and staff
Proper welcome with a glass of bubbly. Nice rooms and nice bar on the reception floor which the 7th floor. Better hotel than the one from same company in Glasgow. Staff motivated and helpful.

Disappointment
Lighting in room dismal, even with all 6 appliances on. Not bright enough to read. Tv-28 screen at the opposite side of the room, struggle to hear and see it. Would have been better mounted on the wall at the toilet door. Carpet torn behind the lamp and bed should have been repaired. The dark furniture is clumsy and surplus to requirements. Kettle in cupboard. Not sure if its safe. No extra pillows or cushions on the bed and the ones there slide down behind the headboard. Only 1 packet of biscuits both nights for 2 guests. 1 biscuit each. The room was not cheap and we were overall disappointed £254.70 for 2 nights. The only bonus was the mini bar, that was stocked both days and made use off it. Would i return. Probably not.

We have used this hotel in the past but will be reluctant to book there again. On the positives, our bed was amazing, very comfortable and clean linens, the shower was great with plenty hot water and the hospitality tray and mini bar was very generous. On the down side, the room was very badly lit and half of the room was almost in blackness. Room 308 is a inside room so very poor natural light coming in the one window. We had to use our phone torch to read the Aircon/heating display. The dressing area by the wardrobe has no lighting whatsoever and the only way to see what you are doing is to leave the bathroom light on and the bathroom door wide open. We asked Reception to supply us with an extra lamp so that we could get dressed for a Wedding but the lamp never arrived. We were there for two nights and we never got an extra lamp. We had to move furniture and heavy floor lamps around to get some light into the room. Only one hand towel was supplied and there are some very dodgy and dusty wires connecting the heated towel rail to the power source in the bathroom. One of the lifts was constantly stuck at floor 6 during our two night stay so it meant that sometimes we had wait for quite a while to manage to get into the one remaining lift. At no point did anyone from the staff mention the broken lift. The hotel used to be a great treat and it’s expensive to stay there but Sorry folks. Will not use it again and would not recommend it

The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. There was only a small window so not a lot of natural light. The lighting in the room could be improved. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was excellent.

The location was perfect. Closed to everything! The room had a grease/fish fry smell everytime we entered. The lights in the room were dim and the window didn't provide any natural light/the view was of a service courtyard with bins and vents. The room itself was quite dated and had imperfections, but was clean enough. We probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

This hotel really lack of maintenance. Furniture are as old as my great grand parents, lack of lighting very dim and looks creepy. A/C was down for 3 days during my 4 days stay. Breakfast was too pricey, nothing special or extraordinary at the price of £16.95(prebooking rate)Other than location I don't find worth staying over here.

Old property with potential. Air conditioning was out in the building, which was not disclosed until after we paid for our room. The portable fan in the room was broken. Room was very stuffy. The restaurant atop the hotel had a vastly limited offering from the menu posted online. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
