The property is located right on the rim trail. However the view of the canyon was obstructed by the roof of the lower floor. The room was dated but comfortable. The staff was very helpful and helped us with our suitcases. Parking adjacent to the building was limited but plenty of parking near the Bright Angel lodge which is a five minute walk. The location was perfect, being right next to the canyon and a short walk to the shuttle for the Hermit’s rest. There are two restaurants next to it. One right across from the parking lot and the other inside the Bright Angel Lodge.

This is what they mean my partial view. The lower half of the view is blocked by the roof of the lower building. Kind of frustrating but you do see the top of the canyon from thr room.

As soon as we entered the room, we could smell a sewage/mold odor throughout the space. The bed seemed old and sagged in the middle, making it uncomfortable for the back while sleeping. Considering its age, the condition is acceptable, but in terms of price, it does not offer good value.

No staff available in this hotel. Need to check in a different place. Parking is a joke. Had to park half a mile away. They advertise for free parking is a scam. basically, the hotel doesn't have any designated parking of its own. Broken chair was a bonus. Expensive considering the condition.

Perfect location for the Grand Canyon

Thunderbird Lodge was the perfect location for our 3-night stay to visit the Grand Canyon. Our room was no more than 20 metres from the edge of the canyon itself and the South Rim Trail passes through the site of the village's main hotel / lodge area, so it's super easy to access the trail whenever you like. Staff were really friendly and we found the prices of food and gifts in the shops to be reasonable - especially given you're a captive audience!

Pros: The Grand Canyon outside your door. Welcoming and friendly staff, great food options - and no judgement when you walk into a high end dining room in shorts and a t-shirt (hadn’t expected to be eating there…), great vintage room - with really comfortable beds and a strong shower. Cons: leaving. Highly recommend.
