Great to find availability last minute on a summer weekend at a reasonable cost. Check in located at a separate building. Actual room not walkable to anywhere. Room appeared updated and surprisingly nice for remote location and age of property. However, be warned due to location in woods rooms are extreme buggy. I killed at least 10 insects during the one night stay, some of which were rather gross. Very hard to keep the bugs out due to location.
Nice to have a store nearby! Rooms were nice and big.
My big complaint was the staff member (with the hat) who checked us in. He gave us no info and said I wasn’t allowed to ask him any questions because he had to give good customer service to others waiting to check in ( there were 4 in line). The other staff member checking people in was telling his customers about restaurants, giving maps, etc. That has always been my experience at check in of hotels-that is good customer service! -not being told to come back later and not being given zero info about the hotel! My questions would’ve taken 1 minute! It started things off on a bad note!
3 night stay was very good. The area had just about everything one would possibly need…dining, general store, shuttle bus, clinic, and even a garage for a car repair we needed.
For a property in the National Park it is updated and clean. Location was great, only a short walk to the rim.

A great place to stay, with conditions…
Yavapai Lodge is all about the location.
You are literally minutes from the rim of the Grand Canyon and getting there for sunrise is a must and easy to achieve.
Honestly, the lodges are looking a little tired and worn in places. But they are functional for what they set out to achieve.
WiFi shouldn’t be as difficult to access these days as it turned out to be. At check in, the least the staff could do is advise clients that if they want and need WiFi, you have to log on initially at the reception desk b scanning a QR code that you won’t find anywhere else. That QR code in your room would be a huge help, especially as some people also have to work while on vacation. Madness I know, but that’s modern life for you.
Some clues or basic instructions on how to use the shower controls would also have been useful, I’ve never seen anything like them before. I honestly felt a little dopey having to call front desk to ask how they work.
But, again, location and nature is everything at Yavapai. I would probably stay again if I was at the Grand Canyon.

An acceptable lodging at the Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is an amazing national treasure, we enjoyed the hiking and sightseeing. The Yavapai Lodge is out of date and needs major innovation!! The General Store is wonderful and the restaurant food choice and quality are unhealthy and poor in the lodge. We had much better breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the El Tovar and Bright Angle Lodge!
We enjoyed our stay at the Yavapai Lodge. It was very convenient to the south rim, to the shuttle buses, and to the restaurant (although the restaurant was just okay). We found the food and service better at the deli over at the market. Having said that, it was worth staying at the Lodge. It was convenient, comfortable and reasonable.
Conveniently very close to visitor center and trails. Enjoyed a telescope star gazing evening that was held outside the visitor center. Shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotions were plentiful and good quality. No microwave.
Not too much choice in the Grand Canyon, good overall but older property

I would not recommend this property to anyone. Food was horrible in the main dining hall - serving cold food that cost 20.00 per person is terrible. Room didn’t have trash bags, no internet, coffee pot broke, room air conditioner malfunctioning, bathroom shower and sink had no water pressure. I will never stay there again.

Good place to stay, but very basic
This is a very basic hotel. You are paying for being in in the Park, not for a nice hotel room. It was comfortable, though, and clean and quiet. Take a flashlight if you need to find your room in the dark. They avoid lights to make stargazing easier. Don't plan on eating at the restaurant in the nearby plaza. It's awful. The grocery store has some options, but closes early. No view of the canyon, but it's an easy drive to the visitor center and other sites. You can take their shuttle, but they only come every 30 minutes or so (in the off season - they may come more often during the peak season) and they don't go to a lot of sites in the park. The Grand Canyon, however, is magnificent.
