One night

Hotel perfectly located. I know that Hotel Du Vin have started on a program of refreshments throughout their portfolio so basing this on how the hotel currently is. Room had a smell of sweat, felt like it needed a good airing. Attention to detail on the cleaning was not very good at all, found a toenail in the bath, general grime and dust. Bed was atrocious. How that mattress is still on the bed is beyond me. Two large dips meant it was impossible to get comfortable, had me up several times in the night. Awful, one of the worst. Junior suite located above bar area so music was clearly audible in the room. In general the hotel and decor are tired and are in urgent need of a refresh! But the bed was inexcusable. Breakfast was lovely.

This is a lovely hotel in a good position. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was nice except that no-one had thought to put on the heating and it was January. The room was cold and only warmed up by next morning. There was only a light duvet and no extra blanket in the wardrobe so I needed to put a dressing gown on the bed, which was far too heavy and we didn't sleep well. Also I had submitted a request for a breakfast which excluded cow's milk for my husband. The waitress was offhand about this and could only supply a milk substitute, not yogurt or cheese. The Hotel du Vin at St Andrews had previously managed better than this so we were disappointed.

Pricey for a slightly tired hotel

The hotel is at a price point that is not appropriate for the room conditions. My room was tired with no fridge but a BIG space where one should have been. Some TLC is required to bring it up to the pricing level that it is positioned at. Parking at £15/night is, as usual, a rip-off when you pay £250/night for a room

Lovely room, just a little cold

Generally lovely stay, smooth, easy and welcoming check in. No parking available but it was on a first come first served basis and we were given plenty of other options of places to park. The room was lovely and large, nice deep bath tub. Unfortunately, it was just quite cold in the bedroom and bathroom. The radiator in the bedroom didn’t work, we contacted reception and they brought up a portable heater, which definitely helped. We were there in December and I believe due to the buildings age, the windows couldn’t be double glazed, but it was just a bit cold overall. Not a problem in the summer at all or if the main radiator had been working. Nice and central hotel for the Christmas markets, pubs and restaurants

Great location, tired room

Excellent location, attentive staff and a modern and cosy reception/bar area. Really enjoyed our stay, however our room was a little tired - marks on the carpet, scuffed walls, paint peeling on the wardrobe. The room facilities were very good, but we also had a space for a fridge which was not there… didn’t affect our stay so we didn’t raise it with reception but if you were staying longer or in summer you would probably want to ensure it was there. I can’t speak for other rooms but ours fell a little short of expectations.

The staff are very helpful and welcoming at all points of contact, from the cleaning staff to bar staff, from reception to breakfast. The rooms are lovely with a genuinely comfy bed, good sized bath and a decent hot shower! Very handy location wise for the shops and restaurants. The eggs Benedict at breakfast was delicious as was the Kir Royal.
