It is just the kind of inn we imagined for our stay in Wales. They serve good food and drinks, have a good mix of friendly local and is very clean. Unfortunately the ceilings are too low for me in much of the inn, including parts of our second floor room. I am 6’ 6" so it might not bother others. All in all, I like the place giving it extra points for charm and atmosphere.
Wrongly, our initial reaction was disappointment. The room was rather compact, it was upstairs and part of the ceiling was at such an angle one had to be very careful when going to the bathroom and getting into bed. Having said that it was spotless. The shower needed to run for quite sometime before getting hot but I think that was more to do with us not knowing how to work it currently. Family came to join us for dinner in the evening. We all really enjoyed our meals.
We were greeted on arrival by the host, he was very welcoming and friendly, as were all bar and restaurant staff we came into contact with at dinner. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
Lovely, clean and very welcoming. Had a very pleasant dinner and a couple of beers in the bar. Breakfast was excellent in the morning. Overall, I would recommend a stay here.
Family run pub and inn. As a woman travelling alone I always keep a low profile, but I was welcomed in and invited to the pub quiz ( declined after a long day of meetings but lovely to be asked!) was looked after wonderfully, and enjoyed my home cooked breakfast watching red kites fly over the River Wye. The perfect base for a trip to Hay. Thank you
Excellent stay all round. Great location, wady to find by the river. Plenty of parking. Super friendly hosts. Great room with suoer bathroom. Food in the evening and breakfast was excellent.
I absolutely loved it, I stayed so I could travel to the Hay on Wye Winter Festival quite easily but really appreciated the view and the chill atmosphere. Would love to return!
I won’t be returning. The room was cold, very basic and very noisy. The evening meal choice was limited and basic. It was overpriced for what it was. The only redeeming factor was the breakfast.
Only stayed for one night to visit Hay-on-Wye. The room was clean and comfortable. It can be a bit noisy though as there is a pub below. Food was good! Especially the apple crumble.
This is a traditional inn with very welcoming and friendly owners. Our room was comfortable and well equipped, if a little noisy being at the front of the inn.
Would have liked somewhere to put the soap when in the shower. Breakfast was excellent, one of the best we have eaten.
Would be happy to stay again.
We really liked this place. The pub was busy, the evening meal pretty good, and the breakfast was excellent. There was a nice atmosphere in the pub and all the staff were friendly. There was plenty of parking.
The room was clean, as was the bathroom. Nothing to complain about.
The Harp Inn was the perfect location to stay the night after a full day in Hay on Wye.
After a pleasant drink, good sleep in a lovely room and cooked breakfast, we were refreshed and ventured on to Brecon for more.
