A nice guesthouse but the suite is over-priced
We did enjoy our stay at Auberge. However, we paid for the large Overburg suite having not realised it was the “premium” suite in a fairly “standard” guesthouse. This meant that we paid £200+ a night for what we were expecting to be a luxury guesthouse with all the qualities for that sort of price. Instead we got an enormous suite with space we didn’t really need. I would 100% recommend Auberge Guesthouse for people staying in the standard rooms as these are much more sensibly priced and are probably good value. However, no matter how big the room is, to charge £200+ a night we were expecting much better facilities (the pool area was quite small, the hot tub was dated and not in a “nice setting” and we didn’t have a view from our room). Therefore, I encourage people to stay at Auberge in the standard room but don’t do what we did and pay a premium price for the suite!
Auberge Provence is situated right on the cliff walk into Hermanus, with beautiful views over the ocean. Our room was huge, and had the most wonderful bathroom. The bed was king sized and very comfortable. But most importantly the ladies of Auberge Provence ensure you are well taken care of. We arrived to a warm welcome and much needed refreshments, and I was pleasantly surprised to find they had booked us into two great restaurants for the nights ahead in case we hadn't had the chance! Breakfast each morning was tasty and a generous serving of coffee provided.
The girls loved the hot tub as the pool was still a bit chilly, and we really enjoyed the walk into town each day. The views are truly spectacular.
Our room and the overall property was beautiful and there was a good breakfast menu (as well as a buffet of continental offerings). We experienced a couple of issues while there such as the toilet flush and hot tub jets not working in our room, but these didn’t detract from a lovely stay. (Fixing these details and a few other points would have had this being a 5 star stay for us.) The location right by the cliff path was great too.
Anni & Charlene hospitably was excellent and made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much problem. They had very kindly had all our restaurants booked for us and it was easy enough to get taxis about the town. The guesthouse is a great location overlooking the sea and a short walk along the cliff path to the town center. We stayed in suite Overberg which was just define, loads of space and an awesome bath with luxury products. The smell of the room was beautiful and we made good use of the jacuzzi in the private patio area of the suite.
The views along the Bay are amazing and it is ideally situated to walk along the cliff path into town and to the harbour. Anni and the team really looked after us, booking restaurants, taxis and whale watching for us. The food was fantastic, great breakfasts and ‘high tea’ in the afternoon. Most importantly, we were able to see whales from the shore line and on our boat trip.
Great feel to a French Villa on the beach. Extremely friendly and helpful people. Stunning attention to detail with high tea and breakfast. Highly recommended.
We stayed in the Lavender Suite. It’s a beautiful room. The plunge pool is not heated so great for summer but probably only appealing to masochists or Swedes in the cooler seasons. Masochistic Swedes will love it in Winter.
The cliff walks are stunning. We saw huge groups of seals feeding about 50 metres out. Some whale activity too.
Breakfast is ridiculously good.
The managers, Anni and Liz are the managers and are the loveliest people.
Just a word about the ground floor rooms - when sitting outside, you have to stand
to see the sea. If that’s essential, get
an upstairs sea-facing room.
We didn’t mind as we sat on the wall of the plunge pool and had a winey blast.
This is a very stylish place but unpretentious. I recommend it highly.
We stayed in a number of quality properties during our trip along the Garden Toute but the Auberge Provence was without doubt one of the best.
From the warm, friendly greeting when we arrived to the opulent and stylish accommodation, we were made to feel very welcome.
The staff couldn't have been more charming and looked after us extremely well. We were only sorry we only booked for 3 nights.
The unique hotel that pays attention to the tiniest detail that provides their guests with a really personal and excellent service. Comfy rooms, exquisite bathroom with view to kill for. Afternoon tea is top notch and a real bonus
Beautiful place to stay! I have already recommended it to friends and family visiting South Africa next year. Delicious breakfast, really friendly staff and great location. A oasis in a bustling city!
Accommodation is excellent and hosts very generous with extras such as complimentary afternoon tea, with great home baking and local delicacies, sparkling wine and nightcaps. Easy walking distance to central Hermanus. Made great restaurant bookings for us and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Auberge Provence was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Luxurious, friendly, clean and beautiful. The food was great but the best was the hot water bottle waiting for me in the bed!
A truly wonderful guest house in a great location with direct access onto the coastal path for a short walk into town or in the other direction towards the harbour. The views from our room on the first floor were fantastic. The rooms are of a high standard overall. Comfortable beds, quality amenities and very clean. The only downside for us was that our room did not have a separate shower but that was my fault for not reading the description correctly!
There is a small courtyard with a pool and some loungers. It does lack the gardens of some of the other guest houses we have stayed in that are further from the centre but the good location meant we spent more time out walking this wasn't an issue.
What really sets this guest house apart is the service and added touches. Personalised information awaits you in your room on arrival with updated weather reports during your stay. The complimentary high tea served each day on demand is absolutely fantastic and as big as some meals! Home made sandwiches, tartlets, cakes, sweets... the list goes on! The breakfast is amongst the best we have had at a guest house in South Africa. There are lots of other little touches that show just how much thought has gone into making your stay personal and enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Located right on the cliff side - ideal for long walks and sumptuous views. We were too late for the whales but, in season, one would be able to see them from the balcony outside the room. Very friendly and helpful staff. A short drive ( or a leisurely 20 minute walk ) from bars and restaurants on the waterfront.
They do a great high tea which we did not manage to partake. Also nice touches like contacting you before to arrange dinner and other activity bookings (go for Quad biking) also a good night drink left in the room each night.
A wonderful guesthouse a short clifftop walk from the shops & restaurants. The owners & staff are so nice and will help with anything you require. Afternoon tea at 15:30 was delightful & they had even made a reservation for our evening meal before our arrival as the restaurants were busy and booked up fast at this time of year. Breakfast in the morning was amazing with everything being cooked fresh and a good selection.
The only negative thing is the fact we couldn't stay longer!
We were looking for a hotel/guest house close to Cape Town for our last night in South Africa before travelling back to the UK. Hermanus was just right as it still had a holiday feeling but was only 1.5 hours to Cape Town airport.
From the moment we arrived at the Auberge Provence we were made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. Our room overlooking the sea was spacious, modern and clean.
Great breakfast, including freshly baked muffins, a selection of fruit, cereal and cold meats and hot options too.
Auberge Provence was a little walk (maybe 15 minutes) to the main shopping/restaurant area, either along the coast path or road but it wasn't an issue for us.
This B&B has everything you will want in Hermanus Location / views and quality. We can not recommend it enough.
Hazel will also book great restaurants and any other activities during your stay
It's a 1 minute drive or 5 minute walk to Hermanus centre. The room was very large with an amazing view looking over the sea. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly. They even booked us a restaurant for dinner for our first night as they were worried places would be fully booked. Recommended.
Sehr freundlicher Empfang, unvergessliches Frühstück und wunderbares High Tea, alles in einer wunderschönen Einrichtung ! Perfekte Lage mit Blick auf den Ozean und Cliff Path direkt vor der Tür.
