The staff was indifferent, no smiling, no welcome to The Golden Spike nothing. I think we were in a newly painted/ remodeled room, but it was just uncomfortable, the beds were HORRIBLE!! The couch was just as HORRIBLE. Breakfast was a waste, the cleaning staff was rude and disrepectful. I do not recommend this property at all

The hotel is always top notch every year we stay. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean. Breakfast Buffet is decent. The only knock I have is the beds are hard! Otherwise it’s the place we stay every year.

I loved the idea of being in a charming small town for our trip to the Black Hills - so we found this. Hill City is a great location and a beautiful drive to all the local attractions. The room was a basic room - nothing fancy. The toilet struggled to flush. Our double pane window was so clouded with moisture we couldn't see outside. The inside pool was ice cold - the hot tub water was ... off. And the beds need to be upgraded. We were in tears laughing how awful they were. Breakfast bar was decently, some staff were friendlier than others. Basically, if you need a place to stay while exploring the area- it works. If you're looking to spend any time in the hotel - find a different one.

Pool was super cold nobody wanted to go in it and hot tub was not hot .more like luke warm, water was really dirty looking too in the hot tub. Breakfast was pretty decent however with a nice selection. Rooms were nice for the cost.
